Ooilow Hanged. San Josi, November 25. Charles Goslow was hanged to-day for the murder of II. A. Grant at Los Gatos in January last.

He slept but little during the night but was quiet and self-possessed this morning. The priests remained with him nearly all morning and a number of friends called to say good bye. Goslow bore himself well on the scaffold, and when the trap fell died without a quiver, his neck being broken. When the body was taken down it was found that the rope had cut into the flesh to the bone, severing the jugular and blood flowed profusely. The body will be sent to his family this afternoon for burial tomorrow.

A Illegal Coinrolitloaer. San Francisco, November 25. Bail-way Commissioners Stoneman, of California, Rounds, of Wisconsin, and Cook, of Ohio, appointed by President Cleveland to examine the last completed section of the California Oregon road, were notified by Secretary Lamar, Sat urday, that owing to the failure of Governor Stone man to take the oath and forward the same to the secretary, he was not a legal commissioner, and con sequently the inspection was invalid and would have to be gone over again. The commissioners, with Col. Crocker, accordingly left to-night for Delta.

MsDonaJd to the complaint of Clara Belle McDonald, in which she sues him for a half million dollars tor having alienated the affections of her husband, was submitted to Judge Hunt to-day. R. II. McDonald confessed judgment to the demurrer of Mrs. Me Donald to his complaint for divorce, and was allowed ten days to file complaint, Hoisting Work! Darned.

Jackson, November 25. The hoisting works over the main shaft of the Bunker Hill mine, near Amadae City, were totally destroyed by fire early this morning. The origin of the fire is unknown. The miners all escaped through the south shaft. The loss is not known but will retch between $30,000 and 143.000; slightly insured.

States Attor ney Grinnell said to-day that he had been promised proof that the Bourd of Trado was nothing but a big bucket shop, If the proof was forthcoming he would bring tlie matter before the grand jury. San Pkdro, November 25. The body of a fireman of the steamer Southern California wai found near tho railroad wharf to-day. His name is unknown, An inquest will be held. Hall Reduced. San Francisco, November 25.

The bail of C. E. Klnard, awusod by Under Sheriff O'Connor of perjury, has been reduced to The Soldiers' Home ComaUileaers Coming. Los Anoeleb, November 25. The joint con mittee on the reception of the commissioners selected to choose a site for a Branch Soldiers' Home met in the Board of Trade room this afternoon.

Gorman read a telegram from Captain Blandins? stating that the commissioners will reach this city next Monday morning and proceed to San Diego the same evening. The object of the present meeting was to decide what should be done in view of the fact that the commissioners would make a shorter visit than was anticipated. After a long discussion a telegram was drawn up by General Miles, addressed to General Franklin, asking that the commissioners spend two days in this city in order to view the various sites and give the citizens an opportunity to tender a banquet as bad been arranged to do. This dispatch was signed by General Miles, Mayor Work man and E. Germain, President of the Board of Trade.

The Craty Senator. Detroit, November 25. Ex-Senator Jones, of Florida, has published a card saying that he has authorized no one to collect any subscriptions for him, and is not an applicant for public charity. This action was taken from the fact that a person had been soliciting subscriptions for the relief of the Senator's alleged poverty. The Senator says he will return to Florida and be a candidate to the United States Senate, to succeed Call, of Jacksonville.

Gave Hlnieelfnp. San Frasisco, November 25. The ex- asistant surveyor of Port Whaley gave himself up into the custody of the United States Marshal to-day, on learning that he had been indicted for connection with the Chines certificate frauds. He was released on $5000 bonds, with Henry L. Fox and J.

Dimmig, charged with the murder of Henry Benhayon, was begun in the police court this afternoon. Died In the Care. Sacramento, November 25. John II. Carroll, a pioneer merchant of this city, and an old and respected citizen, died on the train this evening at Dixon, while en route from San Francisco to his home in Sacramento.

On a Tonr of Inspection. San Francisco, November 25. Governor Waterman and Secretary Boruck arrived here to-day. The Governor will remain in and around the city eight or ten days, investigating State institutions. To-day he appointed Dr.

She died before medical aid reached her. Morrow Cote a Change of Tonne. San Francisco, November 25. In transferring the case of R. F.

Morrow to Sonoma county to-day, Judge Sullivan dwelt at length upon the decision of the Supreme Court in the case of the people vs. Yokum, in which the judgment of the Superior Court of Kern county, de nying the motion for a change of venue, was reversed. Yokum was charged with murder, and the extent to which public indignation was aroused against bim in Kern county, Judge Su'livan believed was similar to the state of the public mind in San Francisco against Morrow, and be stated that if Morrow's application was denied he believed the judgment, if convicted under the present circumstances, would be reversed by the Sepreni6 Court. Bomb Foond in Los Angeles. Los Angeles, November 25.

A bomb nine inches long, made of gas pipe, and supposed to contain dynamite, was found in front of the city clerk's office, and near the police station, this morning. The fuse bad been lit but was not burning. Burned With the Jail. Orland, November 25. J.

R. James, a railroad employee was arrested last night for disturbing the peace, and during the night the jail took fire and burned to the ground, James perishing in the flames. It is supposed he had been smoking and being under tho influence of liquor set fire to the building. The Steamer Dltaiter Victims. Dover, November 25.

Five thousand people attended the funeral to-day of the victims of the Sholten disaster. Business was generally suspended. Killed III Captain. San Francisco, November 25. John Johnson, a seaman, has been indicted for killing Captain John Williams, of the shin Occidental, on the high seas, on March 10th last.

ttlot In Plttsbarg. Pittsburo, Novembor 25. A riot oc curred this evening through the notori ous "Owl gann" attacking a member of the Italian Colony. Pistols, knives and stones were used. Two men were shot and fifteen others iujured, but none killed.

Nihilists Captured. St. Petersburg, November 25. The police surprised an armed band of Nihil ists to-day, and captured them after desperate fight. A Check Ral.tr.

Nevada City, November 25. Three witnesses lor tho prosecution were ex amined to-day in the Clark forgery trial, namely Ellen Ellen, of Truckee, who drew the check which Clark subse quently raised tottlOOO, Frederick Smith, teller of the Bank of California, who cashed the check, and Jerome Deasy, a detective who went to Victoria alter Clark. It is announced that R. L. Cook, of Chi vaga, one of the directors of the Atchl son, Topeka Santa Fe Hailwav, now in this city, will send out a corps of Bur veyors at once to run a new lino by way of Copper City to Durango, Colorado. A Divorce Law. Salt Lake, Utah, November 25.

Tho Labor Bureau at Washington has en gaged K.K.L.ttotild, formerly a professor of John Hopkins' to investigate a divorce granted here, the ohjoet being to formulate a national divorce law. San Fbancibco, November 25. A fire broke out near the Union Iron Works at Potrero this afternoon and destroyed over forty frame dwelling bouses, rendering as many families homeless. A high wind was blowing at the time and it was impossible to check the flames. The firemen were not able to give much assistance, owing to the scarcity o' water. A fire boat pumped a stream through fifteen hundred feet of hose from the bay.

The Union Iron Works narrowly escaped destruction. The Iobs is estimated at $75,000. Sam Francisco, November 25. Michael Nagle, driver of a hook and ladder truck, while going to the fire this afternoon was thrown from his seat and the heavy wheels of the truck passed over him, breaking several ribs and in juring the spine. It is believed the in juries will prove fatal.

Sam Fbascisco, November 25. Michael Nagle, driver of the Truck No. ho was thrown from his seat this after noon while on his way to the Potrero fire and crushed beneath the wheels, died this evening. To Arch Anarchlit's Trial. New Yobk, November 25.

The Most trial was continued to-day. The counsel for the defense contended that it was not Most but free speech that was on trial. Adolph Sehenick, who, according to the testimony of Officer Sachs, presided over the meeting, testified that he was on Staten Island on the night in question. He admitted that he was an anarchist, and described a state of affairs as he wanted them. He said that common sense should be the only rule of conduct there should be no punishment for wrong doing, as the guilty person's own conscience would in time Bet him right.

Moutz Schulitzer, a printer in Most's office, swore he presided at the meeting and introduced Most. Witness insisted that Most had not counseled any violation of the laws or recommended any assassinations. Emil Kosse said that Most made no threats, Court then adjourned until Monday. Investigating the State Library. Sacramekto, November 25.

Governor Waterman, his private secretary, Boruck, and party have gone to San Francisco to make an investigation of the affairs of the State Library. A Queer Accident. Port Costa, November 25. The steam tug Alert was thrown by a strong current against the ship C. S.

Bament to-day. The Alert's smoke-stack, steam whistle and fog horn were carried away, and the steam pipes breaking below filled the engineer and firemen's quarters with steam. The engineer was carried out unconscious and slightly scalded. What Canted the Explosion? Prescott, November 25. The engineers who, at the request of the Coroner's jury, visited the Baw mill of Wilson report that they are satisfied the explosion was caused by a chemical actien in the boiler.

A subpoena was issued for Louis Beck who, it is thought, knows something about the cause. Beck's premises will also be searched. A Corner on Zlne. St. Louis, November 25.

A local commercial paper asserts that the spelter market has been cornered by a French syndicate, which has operated through its agents in Missouri, Illinois and Kan sas, where about three-fourths of the total output annually is produced. The impressidn prevails that furnaces are completely sold up for November, De cember and possibly January and prices are higher. Going to Advance Kate. CniCAGo, November 25. As a result of the meeting of the transcontinental lines here to-day it is asserted that the Canadian Pacific will be allowed to charge a slightly lower rate and partici pate in the Caliiornia and Oregon busi ness, and that material advances will be made in the present rate.

It as also agreed to pav the Pacific Mail Steamship Company a subsidy of $65,000 per month, the latter agreeing to maintain rates and keep out of the higher class of business. Grain Market. The Came of the Postponement. Nearly two thousand people assembled at Waters' subdivision to witness the much talked of and lengthily advertised balloon ascension by Professor Melville, At alout the time the fire was to have been started in the furnaces to produce hot air to inflate the montgolfier, Mr. Franks, th Professor's agent, mounted a wagon, and, having very politely re quested the attention of the multitude respectfully stated that, owing to the threatening condition of the weather, the ascension would have to be postponed until Sunday, when it till be made troin the place heretofore selected at 2:30 m.
