Bus Officials Not Seeking Increases School bus contractors in I school divisions surrounding Edmonton are not looking for rate increases.

School bus operators in Wetaskiwin County are seeking a 15 per cent increase and Alberta School Bus Operators Association president Donald Jackson said Friday increases will be sought throughout the province. But F. B. Facey, superintendent of County of Strathcona schools, east and south of Edmonton, said there have been no representations from bus operators for an increase. He said when the present rate structure went into effect a few years ago it was "considerably higher" than rates in other areas.

SCRAM-LETS ANSWERS There'll be "no stars, just a lot of on Alberta's nineman team in the 3.300-mile Centennial Canoe Race. The race runs from Rocky Mountain House to Montreal. "We'll have a lot of depth in our team. We have many good paddlers, not necessarily stars like the other teams," John Nikel, 35-year-old commodore of the Alberta entry, said in an interview Saturday. Mr.

Nikel and 15 trainees, who will produce the top nine men, come from various backgrounds sewer inspector, big game guide, oilman, high school teacher, businessman and so on. TWO-WEEK WAIT The team, which will clash with crews from the other provinces, will be announced in about two weeks' time, Mr. Nikel said during a training session at the University of Alberta Swimming Pool. Following the routes of the voyageurs, the teams will set out May 24 from Rocky Mountain House in 25-foot canoes. They will battle to the finish line Sept.

4 at the Expo site in Montreal. "In the end, the team which has the most reserve in will power, muscle and brains, best equipped and organized, will win the race," Mr. Nikel said. Each day is a lap in the race and the winning team will be the canoe with the best time tecord over the entire course. On some days, some teams "won't even make it" to the campsites along the route, he said.

Navigation, which the Alberta team will give close attention, is a key element in the race. It's easy to take a wrong turn, thus strengthening the theory that "sometimes it's safer to go slower and straighter, than trying to go Mr. Nikel said. Mr. Nikel, one of three originators of the race, said most of the men have been training for two years.

Saturday they were practising paddling, swimming and life-saving exercises. Hellver Will Speak At Banquet Hon.
