The switch at the hotel front desk was installed only to turn off a warning buzzer but the fire alarm company and police say they system may have been rewired so the alarm system could be turned off from the desk. Mr. Lesnick said that he does not know how many alarm bells stopped ringing when he activated the switch.

"Nothing was showing, no smoke or anything," he said. "As I was going to check the boiler there was a great burst of flame that came out of the lounge." Hotel manager Marc Grondin said Wednesday that he understood that the switch at the hotel clerk's desk only controlled a buzzer which alerted a clerk to look at a panel to determine the location of any fire in the hotel. Mr. Grondin said the only switch which controlled all the alarm bells was in the basement. He said there were about 15 bells in the building.

ROGERS, Fred On January 2, 1977, Fred L. Rogers, aged 93 years, of 7424 22A St. S.E., Calgary, formerly of Lougheed, Alberta, passed away in the Calgary General Hospital after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna in October, 1976. He leaves to mourn his loss, his loving daughters, Marie Duncan and Phylis McClure, both of Calgary, Lorraine Hamel Edmonton and Joyce Dayal of Vancouver; a brother, Jack, in Michigan, U.S.A.; ten grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

After serving three years in World War in the 51 Battalion, he was Postmaster in Lougheed for thirty-seven years, retiring to Calgary in 1959. Mr. Rogers was a life member of the Lougheed Kinross Legion, Branch No. 180, receiving his Gold 50-year Legion Medal in December 1976. Funeral services were conducted by Reverend L.
