November 2, 1986-Page 7B Stcitd Nicholls drops 41-38 decision to Sam Houston for first loss of year Tailback Tommy Minvielle scored a pair of rushing touchdowns to lead scoring for Northeast, now 4-4 for the season. Austin had 392 yards rushing to Northeast's 289, marking the first time this season the Indians were outgained. Austin, however, had seven turnovers three fumbles and four interceptions to Northeast's two. Two of Crutchfield's fumble recoveries set up scores for Northeast, including a fake field goal in the first quarter. Place holder Kevin Duhe pitched the deep snap to receiver Charles Andrews, who passed for 15 yards to Tommy Jackson in the end zone.

Another Crutchfield fumble recovery lead to a 1- yard touchdown run by Minvielle in the third quarter. Minvielle's second touchdown came on a 2- yard run late in the second period. Quarterback Stan Humphries connected with Andrews from 16-yards out for Northeast's first score of the game. Austin's only score came in the third period after a 50-yard drive that was capped by a 31-yard scoring toss from Todd Whitten to Drake Williams. Austin is now 4-4 for the season.

SW Texas routs Northwestern NATCHITOCHES (UPI) Roy Jackson rushed for 200 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Southwest Texas to a 29-6 Gulf Star Conference football victory over Northwestern Louisiana Saturday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, Jackson broke three tackles on a 39-yard scoring run and a two-point conversion attempt failed. The Bobcats came back to score on a safety after a blocked punt and again on a 1-yard run by Rene Maldonado for a 15-0 lead. Northwestern had its only score on Al Edwards 3-yard sweep with 1 26 remaining in the first half. A two-point conversion failed to make it 15-6 at the half. Jackson, who got his 200 yards on 27 carries, came on strong early in the second half with a 30-yard touchdown dash, while Northwestern lost fumbles at the Southwest Texas 29 and 27.

In the fourth quarter, Southwest capped a 64-yard drive with a 15-yard pass from Maldonado to Matt Barber. Southwest Texas snapped a three game losing streak and improved to 3-6 overall, while Northwestern fell to 4-3-1 for the season. Both teams are now l-l in the conference. Northeast hlasts S.F. In the second half Jose Bran had a 41-yard field goal for Nicholls followed by an 80-yard touchdown pass from Hudson to Brian Stropolo. Hudson also hit Mark Carrier for scoring passes of 4 and 29 yards in the fourth quarter, but Sam Houston rallied with Fulbright's scores and a 2-yard run from Herman Weathered.
