Sylvan Reports 80 Gas Meters SYLVAN LAKE The report on gas installations showed that almost 80 meters have been installed and another 21 installations have been inspected. This means that in the near future more than 100 homes and business places will be using gas. Gas fitters are working overtime to keep up with the demand and Stan Bronson, gas company agent, also is on the jump installing meters. There is still some work to be done putting in service lines in the west end of town but this work is nearing completion for this year. RUMMAGE SALE SYLVAN LAKE The recent IODE rummage sale, held at the Watkiss Coffee Shop, was a success with $105 being realized from the sale of a large variety of goods.

After the toast to The Queen, proposed by Chairman Lore, the out-of-town visitors were introduced. They included Lynn Hall, a former mayor of Lac La Biche, and Mrs. Hall, now of Wainwright and District Governor Lyon Bill Ritson, of Camrose.

A lively sing song led by Rev. Robert Green was much enjoyed. In the absence of Humphrey Senetza, the toast to the ladies was proposed by F. McMillan and replied to by Mrs. M.

Green. Two vocal solos by Mrs. H. Mawson, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. W.

Bawlf Ceremonies Open New School Addition BAWLF The new, eight- room wing of the Bawlf Community School was opened officially by A. A. Aldridge, superintendent of guidance, department of education, and former principal of the Bawlf school. The ceremonies, held in the school, also provided an opportunity for the presentation of several scholastic awards to Bawlf school pupils.

Mr. Aldridge, principal from 1932 to 1941, outlined the present school building program in the province and stressed the need for co-operation between school, home, church and community in the educational field. LONG-RANGE PROGRAM Chairman for the occasion was W. F. MacDonald, divisional trustee and chairman of the Camrose School Division.

Other divisional board members present were George Wyatt, J. Sawers and Garnet Burnstad. These guests outlined the board's longrange building program. L. Blades, president of the Bawlf Home and School Association, expressed the appreciation of the parents for the new addition.

N. J. Thompson, mayor of Bawlf and local school board representative, welcomed all present and expressed thanks to the government, the divisional board and the ratepayers for making the new addition possible. Of special interest was an address by H. T. Sparby, professor, faculty of education, University of Alberta, who is a native son and received his early education here. PRESENTATIONS Mr. Dyson, inspector of buildings for the Camrose division, was introduced and was followed by Superintendent Stan Hambly of the division, who presented honor pins to Annette Rasmussen, grade 11, and Donald Christianson and Darryl Wagner, grade 10.

He also presented an honor pin with honorable mention to Lena Lindroth for her success in the grade June exams. Mr. MacDonald then presented divisional award cheques to essay contest winners Scott Robson and 1 Diane Rhyason. A symbolic key was presented by Mr. MacDonald to Principal Oscar Fadum, who accepted it on behalf of the community, staff and pupils.

Mr. Fadum then gave an account of the progress of education in Bawlf from a single room above a store in the early 1900's to the new eight-room, school, opened in 1950, and the present eightroom addition. On behalf of the department of education, Mr. Aldridge presented the school with a picture of an Alberta scene and a copy of the Alberta anthology. Following the ceremonies, the new addition was inspected by all present and lunch was served in the household economics room by the HSA.

Funeral Held For Berwyn Man BERWYN Funeral srevices were held recently from St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church for James Wharton, 51, a long-time Berwyn resident who died in hospital here. Rev. Father Liebel officiated and interment was in the Berwyn Cemetery. A familiar figure in community life here.

Mr. Wharton was associated for many years with Chester Frederickson in the Berwyn Hardware. He was projectionist at the Berwyn theatre and a member of the curling club and the Elks. He spent his boyhood in Seattle, and while attending school there was a classmate of Bing Crosby. Surviving are two brothers, Arthur of Tacoma, and Fred in Australia and three sisters, Mary of Seattle, Katie of Vancouver and Tessie, living in Scotland.
