Woman She Declaring that she will at least be the "driver of the stage coach," the, wife of the late W. M. Mulholland, of Yictorville, who Is cut off in his will with a paltry $5, yesterday filed a resistance to the application of Mrs.

Artimisa Thatcher for the probate of the will and appointment as executrix. Mrs. Mulholland, who resides at Carpenteria, demands that she be named as executrix, in that the will which cuts her oft, names no one to execute the will. Although she is disinherited, Mrs Mulholland, as the nearest relative of the deceased, is entitled under the law to conduct the probate of the estate, it is declared. A will contest will result Mulholland left an estate valued at $4,150 to three friends, dividing up his ranch in the Lucerne valley and giving away his mineral claims.

Attorney It. E. Hodge has been re-taiend by Mrs. Mulholland to contest the appointment of Mrs. Thatcher as executrix, and if possible to have the will set aside.

I ARE Si Needles Makes Arrests For Alleged Violations of a Court Injunction. Alleges "flagrant" violations of the rd-light injunction from the local courts in the city of Xeedles, are charged in telegrams from the desert received yesterday by District Attorney R. B. Goodcoll and Judge B. F.

Bledsoe. Three arrests have been made. They are property owners in the old "red light" district of Xeedles. District Attorney Goodcell telegraphed that affidavits be prepared at once, and forwarded here. Action will then be taken ot a charge of contempt of court, for Judge Bledsoe ordered that the property not be used or permitted to be used for immoral purposes.

Barney Goldstein, Eli Fletcher and Joe Fisher are She men charged with the violation of the injunction. Goldstein and Fletcher secured their release on tail at (Xeedles yesterday, and Fisher, who a negro. Is In Jail. SUIT OVER RETURNS ON AN OLIVE CROP The suit of John W. Craig against Royce, Franklin and Carpenter was heard by Judge F.

F. Oster yesterday and taken under advisement Craig declares the defendants agreed to handle his $2,000 olive crop and take 50 per cent of the profit. The returns, however, just about paid the, expense for the picking, curing and marketing, it is declared, and there was nothing left for Craig. He demands $1,000. Attorney John L.

Mrs. S. I Gowell was the hostess an enjoyable social evening at the socialist local headquarters last night, and there were 230 people at the af fair. The evening held a surprise for Mrs. Gowell, the completeness of which was quite gratifying to ihe conspirators.

For over three years she has svrved as secretary, and in appreciation of this i efficient service, a large number of the ladies of the organization presented her a huge basket with various gifts, aprons, pretty caps and other useful articles. Two little girls, Wilda Varley and Itne Harper carried the basket. this being Mrs. Gowell's first intima-toln of the surprise. The program included an address by X.

A. Richardson, musical numbers by I'lysses Burkey, Miss Bessie Bemis, Wilda Varley, Mr. and Mrs. George Horn; recitations by L. W.

The ceremonies were conducted by Father Donohue, who i one of the charter members of the club, and rhe newly elected members are now capable of most any kind of a feat in the way of mountain climbing. This everting the usual house dance will occur and it is expected that the "Arrowhead family" will be considerably enlarged by the arrival of several mo-toF parties from the city who have engaged reservations for the week-end.

Choir Members Given Merry Social The members of the choir of the First Baptist church were happily entertained last evening by Mrs. F. H. Magoffin at her home at 671 street. Red carnations were the bright and effective decorations.

IN THE SHADOW JOSEPH BERNARD BOWERS After an llnes of eeveral weeks, Joseph Bernard! Bowers passed away last evening at the family residence, 665 street, at the age of 69 years. He was born in Germany in March, 1845, and had been a resident of San Bernardino for 17 years. He had been employed in the paint shop at the Santa Fe hops. Besides his wife Mr. Bowers leaves two step-daughters, Misses Isabel and Mamie Moore, also two stepsons, J.

F. and W. W. Moore of Phoenix. The funeral service will be held Monday at 2 o'clock from tha family residence, interment being In Mountain View.
