O. O. Mr. Morse took the degree of Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampment of the State of California. After the above ceremony Patriarch i- lemming presented Grand Patriarch Moree with a beautiful regalia.

About thirty members from Riverside were present. Alter the presentation of the regalia, the gentlemen repaired to the Stewart Hotel, where a banquet in honor of the occasion had been prepared. O. Jess rang, Deak Sir and Brother I am this dav in receipt of your telegram inviting me to join with you in a banauet in honor of Grand Patriarch A. P. Morte. For the kind remembrance please accept my most sincere ttianks.

very much regret that it will impossible for me to avail myself of the privilege of doiny honor on that occasion to our worthv chief, as business and distance botk combine to raise a barrier in the way. Please extend to the Grand Patriarch my congratulations, not for having risen to the highest position in the gift of the Grand Encampment, but for being privileged to live in a community and among a band of brothers who appreciate his worth and the honor that has been conferred upon one of themselves. To sav that Arthur is worthy of the position to which he has been elevated goes without question, and those who assemble around the festive board to do him honor should feel proud of the fact that his merits are appreciated and his abilities recognized fully as much abroad as they are at home. While I will from necessity be absent from you in person, I will be with you in spirit but please don't imbibe too much of the "spirit." Again thanking you for the kind invitation and with best wishes for the peace, happiness and prosperity of our gallant leader and all his friends, I remain Fraternally vours. W.
