The new parlor is said to contain a large membership of fine young native Cali-fornians. The streets will be in a horrible con dition this winter unless there is some thing done to improve their condition. Wade, general manager of the Southern California Company, was in the city yesterday and took a trip over the new Belt line. He is very much pleaded with the prospects of San Ber nardino county. Wilour Chandler have purchased the hoot and shoe business of R. E. Kil- lifer Co.

All the precincts throughout the county have been heard from except Iyanpah, and yt the contest for sheriff remains unsettled, the Republicans claiming it for Seymour and the Democrats for Cole. It will be decided by the official count next Monday. The new Belt line is completed as far as the asylum site, where a spur has been put in and freight is now handled to and from that point. Yesterday two carloads of raisins were shipped from there. The Belt line will be a paying institution from the start.

The Trustee are contemplating at no far disfant date, the erect ion of fountains at locations suitable, which will accommodate the people from the surrounding country when they come into the city, so that the animals may have a refreshing drink. It is a humanitarian move. R. E. Schulfz, assistant general mana-ager and secretary of the United.

Breweries, was in the city yesterday and appointed KIuss Thode general agents for his business here. They will handle the business here with the same energy and push with which they have always been noted. The action of the Trustees last Tuesday night in instructing the Marshal to notify all saloons not to sell liquor to certain habitual drunkards was most commendatory and meets the approval of every respectable citizen. It is only the dives which will sell to these degraded wretches. Among the presents at the Kiplinger-Waters wedding last Thursday night, were a handsome silver sugar-bowl and cream-pitcher lined with gold, a token from the employes of the Cockier, who have so long labored in company with Mr.

Kiplinger. It is gratifying to note the esteem and friendship which prompts such acts. The sun came out bright and clear yesterday morning, showing the mountains to be covered with the lieautiful? Frosty breaths were frequently wafted over the city, sending a penetrating shiver through the body. The change in climate is a decidedly agreeable one and will prove a healthy relief from the late warm weather. The fire department will be strengthened by the addition of considerable more hose, a new carriage, etc.

The two horses will be trained to drive single to hose carts and hook and ladder carriages. There is a prospect then of the insurance rates being lessened to Book Two, which will be a reduction of about 40 per cent off present rates. The road oyerseer of the section about the depot should urge the Supervisors to expend a little money on the streets in that vicinity. The condition there last winter was simply atrocious and there is considerable property which is unapproachable on account of the mud. It is a thickly settled section and demands something from the Supervisors.

San Diego county is having a big shipment made to Chicago for the exhibit of Southern California, for which she will receive full value in advertising. San Bernardino county must stir herself or she will be badly left in comparison with other counties, and yet there is not another county in point of variety in the whole country and the exhibit from this valley alone could be made highly interesting. The mail boxes for the depository of letters under the new free delivery system have been erected throughout the city. The carriers are three in number, George Lord, W. During the past week they have been busy learning their routes and numbers. There will be two daily deliveries in the outskirts and three in the business portion of the city. The free delivery will tint iirnt at next week. Peonle throughout the city should have their houses numbered, as it will avoid confusion. The confirmation service at St.

John's Church last evening was well attended and was one of the best services of the kind ever held in this city. The Right Rev. Bishop Nichols confirmed eight persons in the church and one privately, before the service. The building was tastefully decorated. The Bishop's sermon and addresses to the newly confirmed and to the congregation were ad mirable.

Certainly Bishop Nichols has completely won the hearts of the church people of this town. The music was un der the direction of Professor Morrison and Mr. E. Waycott, and reflected much credit on the directors and choir. OCR BABY.

H. L. Drew was very happily sur prised at his home last Thursday night by a large number of his friend-, the oc casion being his bi thday. Mrs. Drew had invited in several friends for dinner in honor of the event and about 8 o'clock Mr.

Drew was called to the door to see a man, when before his astonished gaze stood some 40 or 50 ladies and gentlemen who set up quite a laugh when he appeared. Mr. Drew was decidedly surprised and for a moment lost his self-control, but he soon re covered and invited his unexpected guests into the house where they passed the evening with various amusements until a late hour, when they departed, wishing Mr. Drew many returns of his birthday anniversary. Last Thursday, at noon, Mr. Charles Gee and Miss Sallie Bowling were mar ried at the First Methodist church, the Rev. Geo. W. White performing the ceremony.

The wedding was very private, only a few friends of the bride and groom being present. The young couple are well known in this city, the groom being a contractor and the bride having been employed for several years by Mrs. Kennedy in her dressmaking parlors. BOKJT.
