The boosters have added to the program of head coach Jack Andre's 'Jacks, Including the Everyone knew it would not be until the finals, but not everyone knew if both teams would make it. The 'Jacks had their own close scrapes, coming from behind in the fourth quarter to win a 20-7 defensive struggle over Opelousas Catholic; using their big offensive guns against Belle Chaise in that 32-22 win; and surprising defending champion Kinder with a combination of both in a 20-12 triumph. Patterson was not figured to get this far by many. People were saying Belle Chaise was too tough, and there was no way against Kinder.

The 'Jacks have been proving those critics wrong and won believers that were not before after a month of playoff wins. Following the 'Jacks each week of the playoffs, you tend to get swept up in all the hysteria and admittedly, I have. You bear "the who-dat" cheers by every 'Jack fan at all the games, the cheers for the Superdome; you see players gung-ho with enthusiasm on the sidelines, cheering their more successful teammates on. It's a contagious feeling that's probably one of a few in a lifetime and definitely worth having. It will all come to a succeaaful end on the Superdome carpet Friday night Patterson 22, Curtis 20.

Before everyone reads what the Patterson coach says about Friday's game in the Thursday Review and hears the radio interviews in pre-game shows (both KFXY and KQKI will air from the Superdome at 7 p.m. Friday), Tri-City fans need to realize something if they haven't already. Everyone has talked for like IS weeks about the individual Lumberjack players, the Hatchet Squad, the Red Machine, all-district and all-state honors. Patterson mayor Fred Allen Mensman has proclaimed the week Lumberjack Week in Patterson and the St. Mary Pariah school board passed a resolution Tuesday congratulating the Lumberjacks on being in the state finals.

But let's not forget the major motivating force as to why Patterson will be in the Superdome to top a 14-0 season, why the 'Jacks went a-l aa district champs and tasted the playoffs last year. Coach Jack Andre and his staff Robert Koch, Rick Wilson, Keith Thibodeaux, Carey Mac Staples have done a superlative Job in working non-stop to develop these Lumberjacks. Congratulations, Coach Andre, to you and your coaches, for succeeding in the time-consuming chore you've already accomplished and bringing Patterson High to the plateau of success everyone's enjoying. two weeks ago at Harbor Seafood Kesiaurani ana swiB a team bus for Patterson athletes last year. "Robbie, we've changed the playing site of Friday's game," the principal started.

I assumed the next sentence be would utter would say twmtwwg about the field at But Jefferson, where John Curtis has played all their other home games (through Tuesday morning, the AA final was set at City Park Stadium). "We're playing in the Supardome," McMurray matter-of-factly said. I really didn't believe him and asked him if be was kidding. The Patterson players have been talking about playing in the Doom since the playoffs first began, and the rumor has spread like wildfire. Now, I don't know who honestly thought it would come true, but it's like a dream a dream that's coining true.

There'll be several feathers in caps for this Friday night coming off both Patterson and John Curtis, the first Double-A teams to ever play a football final in the Superdome; Lumberjack head coach Jack Andre and the Patterson sdministratiofl for limply giving the final okay for the contest to be played there. A big concern for Andre when Curtis came up with the Superdome proposal was about the proper shoes for the players on the artificial turf. That makes seme, I tuppoee, since the PHS athletic department would be in a financial bind to come up with 70-pha pairs of special-type shoes for Just one game (a big one though it may be). Andre's worries were eased after speaking to a New Orleans Saints' trainer, who said that players could play in the Dome with regular basketball shoes. It sure will look funny to see that come Friday night, but it'll be Adidas-dad feet Lumberjack fans cheer on.

Since Patterson finished the regular season at 10-0 (and getting through those first 10 games unscathed is a feat In itself) and started the playoffs, the big question posed was: "What round would we meet Guaranty Bank AM TRUST COMPANY Of HOMM cm NSH Panthers Fall Against Hanson The Berwick Panthers lost a 63-52 road contest to the Hanson Tigers in a Tuesday night basketball contest.
