Authorities suspect they may be victims of the same suspect who has kidnapped victims on Thursday nights from various parts of the Tri-City area since March 2. A nationwide alert has gone out for Robert Carl Hohenberger, who worked for a welding company in Bayou Vista under the alias of Frank Green. His car was reportedly spotted in Bossier City last week. The 35-year-old Hohenberger, a former sheriff's deputy in California, had been in the Bayou Vista area since December after leaving the California State Penitentiary at San Quentin.

by LARRY COLLINS An intensive nationwide search has been launched for a California man following the discovery of a third strangled body in a cane field hear Calumet Saturday morning. Saturday between 7 and 8 a.m. authorities discovered the body of Gordon M. Cannella, 17, of Bayou Vista, sprawled out in a field with a rope tied and pulled tight around his neck. Thursday night, sheriff's deputies found the bodies of 15-year-old Judy Adams and 19-year-old Bridgett Cantrell Sons in a septic tank in Bayou Vista.

A fifth kidnap victim, 16-year-old Mary Leah Rodermund, was last seen Thursday, March 2, when making a purchase at the Drug Store in the Inglewood Mall on Victor II Boulevard. According to authorities the bodies had not been mutilated, though the Cannella body did show signs of decomposition. The bodies of the Adams and Sons girls were bound and gaged, and one body was blindfolded.

Cannella 's body was not bound. All three teenagers had been the victims of strangulation. While the parish coronor's office would not comment on whether the victims had been sexually assaulted, an FBI official has been quoted as saying sex was the motive behind the kidnappings. In the April 27 kidnapping of Cannella and Mrs. Sons, deputies reported that Cannella had been visiting Mrs.

Sons at the store when abducted. About 10 o'clock that night the store was discovered empty and the cash register looted. Cannella's car and Mrs. Sons' purse were still at the store. Mrs.

Sons'purse contained almost as much money as the $150 taken from the cash register, according to authorities. Police said, the Adams and Gould girls felt someone was following them the night of May 11 as they left the Central Catholic Fair and Extravaganza and one of the girls sought help from the occupants of a nearby car. But, the girls declined their help when it appeared a man had befriended them. It was the last time either of the (Continued on page 12) OBITUARIES JUDY ANN ADAMS BRIDGET L. Miss Rodermund, daughter of oilfield supply-company executive Carl Rodermund, has been missing since she went on a shopping errand March 2 at the Drug Store in the Inglewood Mall on Victor II Boulevard. Morgan City police said at the time a ransom call, demanding $5,000 was made to the girl's family, at which time the girl reportedly spoke with the family. But, no information was given as to where to bring the money and the kidnapper never called again. Two years ago, a holdup in the appropriations bill delayed state spending for several days and threatened to delay paychecks for thousands of employees. (UPI) -Routine business is shoved aside today and will remain on hold until the House completes hearings on the state's $3.7 billion spending authorization bill. Committee chairman will need special permission of the House to hold meetings during hearings on the appropriations bill that already has been amended and re-amended during five weeks of hearings in the House Appropriations Commitee. The bill will become the law that how all state funds will be spent by the state in the 1978-79 fiscal year that begins July 1. Only one House committee meeting was scheduled Monday.

Civil Law and Procedure members planned to meet at 7 p.m. or after the House adjourned to continue discussing a controversial bill that allows the courts to override the Public Service Commission rate decisions. Rep. Kevin Reilly, D-Baton Rouge and chairman of the Appropriations Committee, predicted it would take more than a week for the bill to clear the House. Then it must be reviewed by a Senate committee, debated on the Senate floor and go back to the House if any changes are made.

The bill must be signed by Gov. Subdivision Hearing Set A public hearing on the proposed subdivision ordinance for unincorporated St. Mary Parish will be held Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in Franklin. The meeting is being called by the St.

Mary Parish public schools are failing to keep up with their appropriate grade levels in the areas of reading, language and mathematics. Statistical results compiled from the California Achievement on a parishwide basis dicing the second semester of the 1976-77 academic year, Jed the majority of students tested are, on an avvage, performing at a level lower than their assigned grade placement. The test was administered to eighth, 10th and 12th grade students. The test scores indicate that as the students advance in grades, less progress is made. The test scores also indicate that students at some schools do much better than students at other schools.

Tracing students from the eighth to 12 grades levels In the Berwick area it is found, according to the test scores, that students are performing at or above the eight grade level at Berwick Junior High School. However, at the 10th grade level boys at Berwick High School have fallen behind in three areas while girls have only fallen behind in one area. Upon reaching the 12th grade level, boys at Berwick High School are failing to perform at the assigned grade in six of seven areas and girls are falling behind in all seven categories. The areas tested include language mechanics, usage and structure, spelling, reading vocabulary, reading comprehension, mathematic computations and mathematic concepts. While students in the Berwick area appear to be holding their own at the elementary level, the same trend is not followed in the Centerville and Franklin areas.

Eighth grade Centerville students are deficient in virtually all areas with boys operating at the proper rate in usage and structure while girls are faring all right in usage and structure and spelling. At the 10th grade level, all students are functioning below the assigned grade in all areas and continue that trend at the 12th grade level with one exception. Senior girls at Centerville High scored approximately one grade higher in language mechanics, but scored below the 12th grade level in all other areas. Both 10th and 12th grades students tested at Franklin While virtually all the 10th and 12th grade schools have the majority of students performing below the proper grade level, Patterson High School is doing Just the opposite. Beginning with the eighth grade, male students at Patterson Junior High are progressing at or close to their assigned grade levels.

The girls are deficient, according to the test scores, in the areas of vocabulary, math problems and math concepts. Tenth grade male students are deficient in spelling and vocabulary but on line in all other areas. The female students are on line or ahead in all test areas. Senior boys at PHS were found to be deficient in vocabulary while the senior girls were deficient in vocabulary, comprehension, math problems and math concepts. Deficiencies average from as little as a few months behind the appropriate grade level to as much as four years, with averages appearing to be between one md two years, throughout the parish.

The second Installment will look at treads noted ky the test scales In St. Mary Parish. High School failed to compile scores equal to their assigned grade. In most cases, eighth grade students at elementary and junior high schools which feed Franklin High were performing below their grade placement. One exception was Glenco Elementary, which houses grades one through eight.

There, with the exception of vocabulary, students are performing at or above their assigned grade. The lack of progress in Morgan City occurs on a more gradual basis. Students tested at Morgan City Junior High scored satisfactorily in most areas, with three exceptions. MCJHS boys were below the grade level in vocabulary and comprehension and girls were below grade placement in comprehension. At the 10th grade level at Morgan City High School, boys were below the assigned grade in all areas except math concepts, However, the girls were holding their own in all areas, except vocabulary, the same deficient area for girls at MCJHS.

The 12th grade test scores show students performing at below -grade levels in all areas with three exceptions. The boys are performing at or close to the proper grade level in language mechanics and spelling..
