Both together make the Los Angeles Rams a passing threat. Neither however, get the press attention both deserve. At No. 5 is the combo of Alfred Jenkins and Wallace Francis. This pair of Atlanta Falcon wide receivers may be the speediest of all, or they are at least equal to Jefferson and Lofton.

Their main asset besides their speed is their quarterback, Steve Bartkowski. The remainder of the top 10 include the following combination: Sammy White and Ahmad Rashad Nat Moore and Duriel Harris (Miami); Cliff Branch and Bob Chandler (Oakland); Reggie Rucker and Ozzie Newsome and Charlie Joiner and Wes Chandler (S.D.). We recognize the following combinations for honorable mention: Mike Renfro and Ken Burrough (Hou.) Harold Carmichael and Charlie Smith and Jerome Barkum and Wesley Walker (N.Y. Jets). Admittedly, there are other fine wide receivers in the game, but they have the unfortunate fate of either playing for a poor team or lack an equally talented partner.

Those who we would like to recognize for individual achievement under these circumstances are: Ike Harris (Saints); Stanley Morgan (New England); Fred Solomon (San Mel Gray (St. Louis); Jerry Butler (Buffalo); and Roger Carr Next week: Fourth and final segment, the best on defense. Third In A Series In the first two segments of this series, we took a look at the best individuals at their positions, both at running back and quarterback. This week, we'll stray a little from that by taking a look at the best wide receiver combinations in the NFL. Our choice for No.

1 is the combo of John Stalworth and Lynn Swann of the Pittsburgh Steele rs. Although both have had their share of injuries in recent years, these two receivers still rank as among the most fearsome in the game. They have exceptional hands and good speed. Neither is afraid to leap high for a catch. Without boring you with statistics, we can easily say this combination leads the league in TD receptions.

Not far behind are the Dallas Cowboys' duo of Drew Pearson and Tony Hill. Pearson, the veteran, is "Mr. Clutch:" He's the man Roger Staubach could go to in game-winning situations. Hill may be faster and healthier, and will probably be around for quite sometime. These two present a most formidable pair.

Green Bay has acquired perhaps the best individual receiver in the game today, John Jefferson. Jefferson joins Stanford speedster James Lofton to form what could be the best duo of pass receivers in the NFL in the next year or so. Jefferson had 37 TD's in 47 games through Oct. 4. Fourth on the list is the pair of Preston Dennard and Billy Waddy.

Waddy is the speedster and RALEIGH, N.C. North Carolina, 6-0, had scored 237 points going into the game but the Tar Heels could not generate any offense in the first half and trailed its intrastate rival 10-0 at halftime in the Atlantic Coast Conference contrst.
