Oil HAUNTS IUN11 Heavy Snows On the Higher Altitudes Causes the Wild Animals to Seek For Food In Valleys Burro Tale. HIGHLAND, Nov. 24. (Regular Correspondence or THE SUN.) Rob-! ert Yarnell, who carries the. mail between Highland and Fredalba, had an exciting experience last night with a mountain lion, while coming1 down the City Creek road, the occurrence developing the peculiar instinct for self-preservation, on the part of a burro and Its small colt which Yarnell was driving to town.

It appears that when Yarnell left Fredalba he was driving ahead of him the burro and its colt. When well down the City Creek road the burro suddenly stopped, and commenced to walk rapidly in a circle about its offspring, which stood motionless. Yar-nell's horse also suddenly stopped, and only after repeated urgings could he get it to go ahead, and in squeezing Its way past the two burros the thoroughly startled horso was almost pushed off ne road and into the chasm below. It was then that Yarnell realized that the strange uemonstrations of the Sour StomacK No appetite, loss ol strength, nervous ness, headache, constipation, bad breath, general debility, sour risings, and catarrh of the stomach ars all due to indigestion. SAN BERNARDINO DAILY SUN. PAGE THREE. Rheumatism Is one of the constitutional diseases. It manifests itself in local aches and pains, inflamed joints and stiff muscles, but it cannot be cured by local applications.

It requires constitutional treatment acting through the blood, and the best is a course of the great medicine Hood'sSarsaparilla which has permanently cured thousands of cases. For testimonials of remarkable cures Bend for Book on Rheumatism, No. 7. C. Hood Lowell, Mass.

three animals was caused by the presence of a mountain He cculd hear the savage beast crushing down the brush on the mountain slope directly above tne road, and within a short distance below where the burro and Us colt had suddenly stopped. Every effort was made to get the burro to continue tho journey down the mountains, but not for an instant would Ihe courageous little beast pause in its protective circling about the colt, and. Yarnell was compelled to leave the two on the road. He urged hi3 horse forward, battening to town with the Fredalba mail, and prepared for the return trip. When he headed back along the road this afternoon, he was heavily armed, prepared to give the big lion battle.

His one hope is to find the brave little burro and its colt unharmed. Its unusual actions leads him to believe that by some strange foresight the burro that the lion was preparing an' attack. Should harm have come to either of the beasts Yarnell is prepared to hunt down the lion, and his friends expect that on his, next trip to town to pee him bringing a lion's scalp as evidence of his success. Animals Seek Valleys. The deep snows on the mountains are driving the wild1 animals to the valley in search of food.

It is bslleved that the lion encountered by Yarnell has probably been made desperate by starvation, a fact, that accounts for its during in remaining close to the road and1 not taking to flight when Yarnell happened along. Campbell, of Redlands, yesterday filed with the Superior Court an appeal from the decision of Justice Gifford who found Barnett guilty of unlawfully conducting tie sale of a bankrupt stock of goods in Redlands without fVst procuring a license as made necessary by a municipal ordinance. The suit is brought to test the validity of the ordinance which Is aimed to protect the permanent business men. It fixes the license for itinerant merchants at $100 a quarter, while the regular license is $4. Barnett opened a bankrupt sale, and presented as his license. It was refused, and he was arrested.

Another contest has also been brought by a music dealer of Red-lands, who is arrested under a "John Doe" complaint. He will be arraigned before Justice Gifford Monday, and if found Etiilty will also appeal.
