Tbe quiet precincts of Riverside were considerably excited last Sunday night over a shooting scrape in which both participants were injured.

John A. Allen's family were away on that night, the only inmate of the house being the servant girl, in tbe afternoon she noticed two rough looking men pass ing up and down the street, looking at the house. Some time after midnight she was awakened and saw one of the men in her room. He did not answer and she pulled the trigger, the bullet hitting the casing.

She fired again, missing again and at tbe next shot the burglar had pulled his pistol and they fired simultaneously, both bullets taking effect. Judge Blair delivered an eloquent and temperate address in Calico on Saturday night. Unlike tbe wormy Williams, he slung no "idiotic" epithets at tbe heads of Cleveland and Thurman.
