-EIGHT Survey White Court Cut- -Off As New Alaska Highway Link (Continued from Page 1) and on to Cherhill, Sangudo and White Court. available to traffic is an 18-mile road from Cherhill to Fallis, putting drivers on the paved route to or from Edmonton in jig time. Often Proposed For many years, various organizations have advocated the construction of the White Court "cut off," claiming that this would be a factor in speeding bela settlement of the north country facilitating traffic needs. Delegations interviewed past provincial governments in pressing for consideration of the route. Last week, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in annual meeting at Banff adopted a resolution which urged the federal government and the appropriate provincial governments to proceed with the construction of a class one highway between Edmonton Dawson Creek, B.C., the southern end of the Alaska highway.

Subsequently, supporters of the resolution indicated that they had in mind the construction of road from White Court. At the same time, they were not unmindfr of the importance of such a route to northern defence planning. Distances Given From Edmonton to White Court by highway is 125 miles, according to Alberta Motor Association road maps. The approximate distance from White Court north in a direct line to Valleyview is 93 miles. This might be 15 miles longer, allowing for route diversions to obtain the best possible grade.

From Valleyview to Grande Prairie, the distance is 68 miles, thus, the approximate distance from Edmonton over the proposed new route to Grande Prairie is 286 miles, or from Edmonton to Dawson Creek by the same route 376 miles. From High Prairie, on the Peace River highway, west to Valleyview, the distance is 48 miles.
