OBITUARY. VAJOR GENERAL J. PARKHURST. Coldwater. May General J.

a Parkhurst, well known as an officer in Army of the Cumberland during the Civil who served for two yearn as provost marshal gwersi under General Thomas, and who was United States Minister to Belgium under President Cleveland, died suddenly hist night at his home General John Gibson Parkhurst was a native of Oneida Castle. N. where he was born on April 17. 1824. After graduation from the Oneida Academy, he studied law, and was admitted to the bar sing ii Oneida for two yean he went to Michigan, where he was engaged In the work of profession when the Civil War broke out.

He had been secretary of the National Democratic Convention in 1960, and on September 1861. enlisted in the army. He was lieutenant colonel and colonel of the fth Michigan Infantry and a brigadier general on the staff of General George H. Thomas. He also saw service as provost marshal of the Fourteenth Army Corps and provost marshal general of the Department of the Cumberland, also of the Military Division of Tennessee.

After the war he was United States Marshal for Michigan from :866 to He then returned to his law practice, but in IMB he was appointed by President Cleveland Minister to Belgium, and served two years. Death was due to angina peetoris. induced by nervous strain over a game. Max Judd was born in a little village near Austria, on December 27, 1852. At the age of twelve he came to this country and lived at first at Cleveland, and later at St. Louis.

He soon made a name ac a chess player, winning the championship of Ohio in 1871. holding the title until IS9I. He played in many national and international chess in this country and and received many second, third, fourth and fifth prlzf-s. ns. for Instance, at Cleveland in Chtragm in 1574.

Adams, of New York, well known In military and in the iron and steel business, died at his summer home hero to-day, as the result of an operation for the removal of hie leg. Colonel Adams sixty-two years old, and until recently wbi president of the Colonial Iron Company, of Pennsylvania. He was vice-president of the Patriotic lieaeue of America, an ex -captain of the Old Guard and a member of several clubs and societies in New York.

From the southerly end of this line two connections are provided with railways In Manhattan. The first Is a track connection leading to the bridge over the Harlem River belonging to the Putnam Division of the New Tork Central Hudson River Railroad Company. The other a two track subway parsing un Tt the Harlem River to a point In Eighth Avenue near 154 th Street, so as to connect with a Bubm-ay to be hereafter constructed under that avenue.

A third spur Is planned to connect with 153-1 Street near Cromwll Avenue, so aa to afford a means of Junction with the proposed Lexington Avenue subway as proposed by this Board.
