DER Unit Says 'No' MOUNT PLEASANT Plans submitted by a local firm for installation of air pollution control devices have been disapproved by the Bureau of Air Quality and Noise Control of the state Department of Environmental Resources. Alverton Fuel of 101 N. Church submitted plans to the state department for installation of the pollution control equipment on a coke oven at its East Huntingdon Township facility. The bureau said it had not been given information that is required by the department's regulations, including specific data to show that the emissions from the quenching operations, the pushing and charging operations and escaping from the door would be in compliance with applicable regulations. Information to show that the proposed source will be equipped with reasonable and adequate facilities to monitor and record emissions of contaminants was also not provided, the bureau said.

St. Joseph's Plans Services SCOTTDALE St. Joseph's R. C. Church, Everson, will hold a liturgy of the Lord's Supper at 7 p.m.

Good Friday, a liturgy and veneration of the Cross, in addition to communion will be held at 1:30 p.m. Stations and veneration of the Cross will follow at 7 p.m. Vigil mass of the resurrection and liturgy will be celebrated at 7 p.m.

Holy Saturday. Easter Sunday, procession and resurrection mass, will be held at 8:30 a.m. followed at 10:30 a.m. by the Easter high mass. Confessions will be heard before each mass and devotion and from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Holy Saturday. Plans Finalized For Dance at Moose SCOTTDALE Final plans for an Easter dance will be completed when Scottdale Women of the Moose meet at 8 p.m. today. The dance will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Easter night at the lodge. Music will be provided by The Starliters. Senior Regent Mrs. Ann Camaratto has asked the members to bring groceries to the meeting for the grocery basket. Following the business session, Dale Fuller will speak on "Life, Love, Meditation and Message." A covered-dish lunch will conclude the meeting.

Following that, the secretary will meet in executive session with members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The meeting was arranged at Kissinger's initiative. Hikmak Chief-of Syrian delegation here to discuss the problem of disengaging Israeli and Syrian forces on the Golan Heights front. The Syrian delegation, which is scheduled to arrive in Washington Wednesday, is not authorized to enter into any substantive negotiations, informed sources said. Hikmak and his group will present the Syrian disengagement proposal which reportedly requires the withdrawal of all Israeli forces from captured Syrian territory as a prime condition. In return, Kissinger will hand him the Israeli proposal, presented to the United States two weeks ago, in which Israel proposes to pull back from about two-thirds of the 325 square miles oc- cupied on the Golan front. On Thursday, Kissinger also will meet with 'President Houari Boumediene of Algeria.

Their discussion, which will take place over lunch at the State Department, is expected to advance prospects for the restoration of U.S.-Algerian relations broken off by the Algerians at the time of the June 1967 Middle East war. Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko also is expected in Washington later this week to continue discussions on major issues in preparation for President Nixon's scheduled visit to Moscow in late June. Westmoreland Sunday School Group Meets SCOTTDALE--Raymond McCune presided at the recent meeting of Westmoreland Sunday School Association held at Calvin Presbyterian church. The local church will host the 82nd annual County Convention from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 28.

Those wishing to make reservation for the event can contact any association member or the Rev. Charles E. Hamnett. Those wishing to make a luncheon reservation can do so. Speakers will be the Rev.

Paul M. Roth of the Mennonite Broadcasting Harrisonburg, who will give the convention address; Milton Blatt, vice president of Pennsylvania Sabbath School Association; the Rev. J. L. Clark, and the Rev.

Carl Bowman. Special music will be offered by the Wesleyan Youth Choir ot Armbrust, Bell Choir of Calvin, United Presbyterian church in Scottdale, and by Ronald and LeeAnn Hopkins. Marabelle Pasztor announced the Sunday School attendance campaign will be held for a six week period following Easter Sunday, and terminate May 26. Purpose of the campaign is to prevent decline in attendance. Each Sunday School is competing against its 1973 record.

Singers Perform SCOTTDALE The Hilltop Singers of Science Hill High School in Johnson City, will present a concert at Scottdale Church of Christ at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The group is a combination of two ensembles and has participated in regional, state and interstate competitions. It has received no less than superior ratings in any competition. It performs for church and civic groups as well as contests.

The musical repertoire includes standard choran classics as well as speciality compositions and popular contemporary songs. Several of The Hilltop Singers are music majors at Science Hill and plan a career in music. Many of this year's group are also members of the cast of "Brigadoon," presented three days before this year's tour. The group performs a major tour and competition every other year. The Hilltop Singers are directed by Rodney A.

Sturtz. He is a native of Scottdale and received his bachelor's degree from Milligan College in Tennessee. He received his master's degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Under his direction, the music department at Science Hill has grown from 22 to more than 200. Through competition and special concerts the Science Hill Choir and the ensembles have been established as one of the finest choir programs in Tennessee and the south, according to a spokesman for the Church of Christ.

The tour is not financed by Science Hill High School, but is totally paid for by The Hilltop Singers and the people for whom it sings. One Admitted After Crash MOUNT PLEASANT Three persons were taken to Frick Community Hospital, Tuesday, as a result of motor vehicle accidents.

A hospital spokesman said Solon Hillegas, 18, of 401 Walnut Street, Scottdale, suffered an injury to his head at approximately 2:50 p.m. in a motorcycle accident near his home. Hillegas was admitted and is reported in satisfactory condition. Michael Karasky, 17, of 715 Parkview Terrace, was treated and released following a one-car mishap about 7:30 p.m. on Braddock Road Avenue.

He also sustained a head injury. Robert Long, 20, of Mount Pleasant, R. D. 4, was taken to the hospital about 10:20 p.m. following an accident on Diamond Street, but there were no apparent injuries, according to the hospital spokesman.

Scottdale VFD Fights Minor Station Fire SCOTTDALE-Scottdale volunteer firemen extinguished a minor blaze at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday in a vacant gas station on Porter Avenue. Cause of the fire was not determined. WEDNESDAY, APRIL PAGE NINETEEN Missionary Convention This Week at Donegal MOUNT PLEASANT The annual missionary convention and evangelistic meetings are being conducted at 7:30 p.m. daily all this week at Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Donegal.

The Rev. Earl C. Docherty, pastor of Three Mills and MA Church, will be the evangelist through Friday. Missionaries will begin Thursday and Friday with the Rev. David Douglas, a missionary to Vietnam, who will speak and show slides on both nights.

The Rev. Ralph Berber, a missionary to Mali, Africa, will speak and show slides on Saturday. Miss Barbara Volstad, a missionary to Chile, South America, will present the missionary tidings of her field Sunday morning. The convention will conclude Sunday evening with the Rev. Gordon A.

Cummings, formerly a missionary to the Ivory Coast, Africa. Special music will be provided both nights by local talent and visiting musical groups. The Raymond Sturtz family of Scottdale will sing and play the organ and piano on Saturday. Missionaries will have curios and other items for display during the convention. National budget for missions of the Penn Theater Changes Hands MOUNT PLEASANT Penn Theater, Mount Pleasant's only indoor theater, recently changed ownership and management it was announced by Harold S.

Cohen, manager of the theater until its transfer on April 3. New owners of the Penn Theater Building, located at 100 East Main are Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Beter of Irwin. Beter currently manages the Lamp Theatre in Irwin of which he is a co- owner.

He will also operate the Penn. Fromer owners were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cohen of Willow Street. The couple said they have no immediate plans for the future having owned the theater for many years.

For the present, the same seven-day a week policy will follow at the Penn, Beter said. Booking of films will also follow the prevailing setup which requires Mount Pleasant to follow Greensburg. A larger inside lobby and concession stand are being planned as part of the physical changes at the building. Assisting Beter will be James Jacobs of Mount Pleasant. A veteran movie exhibitor, Beter is also a former newspaper man.

He was editor and publisher of the Irwin Standard and The Times-Observer, North Huntingdon, until June of 1969 when he sold out to Westmoreland Journals, Inc. The two weekly papers are now the daily Standard-Observer. Beter said "Sleeper," "Serpico," "American Graffitti," "The Sting," "Alice in Wonderland" and "Three Musketeers" are among the films to be shown in the near future. and MA is more than $8 million and the local budget for the Donegal church for 1973-74 was $5,270 and it will be overpaid by the end of the fiscal year ending April 30, according to the pastor, the Rev. Westmoreland College Gets $22,500 Fund HARRISBURG (UPI) -The Appalachian Regional Commission Tuesday approved $194,349 in grants to four community colleges. The grants will go to: Beaver County Community College in Monaca, an $11,850 grant to improve technical programs and buy equipment for welding and auto body classes. Luzerne Community College in Nanticoke, a $107,499 grant to buy equipment for seven courses.

Westmoreland Community College, in Youngwood, a $22,500 grant to buy equipment for two courses. Worthington Scranton Campus of Penn State at Dunmore in Lackawanna County, a $52,000 grant to buy lab equipment. Guesf Speaker The Rev. Paul M. Roth, counseling pastor for "The Mennonite Hour," will speak at 2:20 p.m.

April 28 at the Calvin United Presbyterian Church, Chestnut Street, Scottdale. Rev. Roth is also director of the Home Bible Studies for Mennonite Broadcasts, producers of The Mennonite Hour. With 31 years as a minister, Rev. Roth now is a pastor at Masontown.

He is also a family counselor. He has worked with students in the public school systems since 1931 and in 1967 was honored as man of the year at Masontown for his spiritual and civic leadership.
