The Public Service Commission will open on Tuesday and Wednesday bidj for the finish of the stations on the two elevated lines of the duul subway lystem in Queens. As numerous com? petitors for the contracts have sub? mitted estimates, a favorable selection is confidently expected.

Of the two lines in Queens the more advanced to completion is the Second av. branch to Astoria. The roadway of this line is completed and simply awaits track laying and the complet? ing of the station? to have it for use. The Roosevelt or Corona branch, is approximately -HI per cent advanced, the principal portion of th-' i structure remaining to be being Section 1, which includes the section at the bridge plaza. This part also involves the Astoria branch, as both lines converge her" to con? tinue over the Queensboro Bridge.

Tie contract for the completion of Section 1 expires about October 7, but as only 50 per cent of that work was tlone on July 1 there is no likelihood that the remaining half can be com pleted the specified time. This fact. was foreseen, however, some ago, when announcement wag made by a representative of the Public Servies Commission that in all probability th-'! two Quoena elevated lines would ready for service next January. Ac? cordingly builders ami nal estate deal era are planning, antl in many sec? tions, particularly those contiguous to the Astoria line, numerous modern style flats have been constructed and others are in the planning. Construction of homes to discount dux of resident- after the oper? ation of the new system of transit will doubtless be greatly stimulated by the iction of the Public Servies Commis? sion, which a few days ago submitted to the Board of Estimate, in keeping i with its recent resolution, a set of plans for the building of tunnels to earry the subway trains into Manhat- tan instead of over the reconstructed Q'tecnshoro Bridge.

The latter plan was earnestly opposed by realty and business interests on both sities of the river as being a trille removed from a makeshift whose usefulness would be' outlived within a few years, and thus leave the bridge a reduced highway, Incapable of handling the steadily growing vehicular tralhc.
