2A MURFRZESBORO PRESS. Thursday August 3, 1978 'Sam Davis' features local talent I remotely liked, "Saturday Night Fever," you will adore "Grease" since this record has at least a few minutes of music. Away with the negative adjectives! Foreigner's second album has been recently released and "Double Vision" (Atlantic SD 19999), once again, indicates great promise this group has. "Double has some similarities to the band's immensely those years. It is regrettable that the film's producers did not stick closer to the original Broadway production; Instead, is full of many newly composed songs of such quality that one wonders why anybody even bothered to write such nonsense.

Actually, An entertaining Reviewed By Van West Local Talent: "Sing Me No Sad Songs," the story of Sam Davis in song, is currently in performance at Fortress Rosecrans. If you haven't seen this saga about the Civil War and one of the South's true sons, the next few weeks would be the ideal time to do so. This year's, production features Chip Monk the. role of the young Confederate Sam Davis.

"Love Has Taken It Toll," "Double "Spellbinder," and the in strumental "Tramontane, reflect the new sound Foreigner a compelling driving intensity that 're mains controlled.

And th remainder of the album has few weaknesses. In fact the major complaint yoi can make about "Doubh is that it has toe much studio purity and lacks the creative rough-edges found in their live performances. With this new release, Foreigner shows that their debut was not lucky and that they can, and are willing, to improve. If such trends continue, this group will become one of thel970's most important rock bands. School board members estimated that it would be a year before the fire-ravaged wing would again be in operation.

"This is an emergency situation and this is going to be "an inconvenience," Pit-tard said. McDaniel was arrested July 7 in Cookeville after bank employees there became suspicious of his actions. He had allegedly opened a checking account there under the tmoniker "Joe Banks" with a $50 deposit, the same amount used in the setups here. McDaniel, who is free on $15,000 bond, allegedly cashed two 1 ,500 checks at First Tennessee June 13 and is accused of trying to cash two $3,000 checks at separate MBT offices on that day, succeeding only at one. He is also charged with passing two bogus $2,500 checks at MBT on June 29, 1977. Hagwood said he could not believe how easily the banks parted with the large sums of money, and claimed, "I catch hell for cashing a $10 check." The unusual 2-2-2 tally followed a unique parliamentary move by Westbrooks to bring the motion to a vote. After Rose's motion floundered for 10-15 seconds without a second, Westbrooks seconded it and relinquished the chair to the vice mayor. Nonetheless, the motion failed for lack of a majority. A public hearing date could have been set, but no action was taken on that. Whenever police patrol the area, nothing happens, because "it seems like the kids know when they come around," she said. She said the teenagers who roam the streets were also responsible for burning several abandoned duplexes in, the three years she has lived in "the Wherry area. "The kids were lighting them and the kids were laughing about it," Mrs.

Aldridge said. "They think it's funny." She said she sometimes worries about her children being exposed to such rough characters and does not allow her son to play out of sight of the family's front door. Some abandoned ramshackle houses have been demolished in the development and Mrs. Aldridge said that the one next door to hers should be going soon, because workmen have been making progress up her family's street. For the moment though, the broken glass and the toilet on the mattress remain right, next door to Mrs.

He said many of the beat-up housing units were remnants of when the Air Force still controlled the housing group. As for a vandalism problem at Wherry, Durham said, "We don't (have one) now. We did at one time." fc (Continued from page 1) Westbrooks said the tuition proposal is a "much more complicated procedure than it. would app.ear.tabe.on.the surface." ROSECRANS CENTRE PRODUCTIONS Tickets Now Available Tickets are now available popular debut album "Foreigner," but is is the differences that are important. "Double Vision" is a harsher and more heavy handed set. The careful harmonies of the first album are bypassed in favor of more individualistic interpretations and heavy metal tonal structure. Such a transformation undoubtedly strengthens the band's music; therefore, "Double Vision" has to be considered among the year's best releases.

The key to Foreigner's successful musical sound has to be the guitar of Mick Jones and the keyboards of Al Greenwood. These two 100 (Continued from page 1 from the Cplemon district to attend David Youree. Howard Kirkland told the board that the board should find "enough guts" to enforce the school zones. 'REPAIRS TO THE TRADE- EDSEL JAMES OWNIH 4111 l(i IHI ikp 7 t- "Grease" gives us a disco-interpretation of the rock-and-roll age and if there is anything America needs less of, it is disco music. However, all is not lost.

Olivia Newtort-John possesses one of the most pleasing voices around and while she does not have much to work with in the film, her musical debut must be considered a success. Stockard Channing is a pleasant surprise as Rizzo. Channing sings with gusto and vigor, tinted with a little wildness which accurately protrays her character in song. The chorus work is spirited, but that's about all. That leaves us with John Travolta.

One would probably be understating the case drastically to say that Travolta is no singer. He may be a good dancer but to couple him with Newton-John just wastes the Australian's talent. As one would expect from a former sweathog, all Travolta can do is grunt and breathe heavily. Surely, there is a young man in America that can both dance and sing: Travolta is not that man. No doubt, "Grease" as an album will be a great commercial success.

This record does produce evidence that Newton-John with just about any musical material, but, overall, these discs are a great disappointment. But, if you loved, or even 'As.
