She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Anna Bridget Canning (nee Nesdale) and her grandson, Charlie. She is survived by her brother John Canning and his wife Eudora (nee Howell), their children Nicole (Adam) and Stephen (Jo), and their grandchildren Riley and Emily Folbigg and Florence Canning. Born on October 6, 1943 in Cuckfield. Sussex England.

Anna attended a Catholic Primary School in Haywards Heath, Sussex, and, due to exceptionally high results in the eleven-plus examination, enrolled herself as a Sussex County scholar in a Private School run by French Catholic nuns in Brighton. Sussex. Anna left school at sixteen to earn her living. Annaqualified.topof her set, as a State Registered Nurse and as a State Registered Midwife (General Lying in Hospital, London) and practiced in Cornwall and South London before emigrating to Canada in 1968 to work first at the Civic Hospital until she married Geoffrey in 1970, and then for about a year at the Elisabeth Bruyere Hospital. Whentheirchildrenwere old enough, Anna returned to work to become a doctor's nurse for many years with Dr.

Robert Birnbaum. Anna was the pillar of her family and much loved, valued and good friend to so many. Anna supported friends through all their trials and tribulations. Her advice and counsel on all matters was sought and respected. Anna's regret was not to have had theopportunity to attend a university to earn a degree, but her family valued her as their most intelligent, knowledgeable and practical member.

Anna was stricken by three bouts of cancer, the first two of which were scarcely apparent to her family and friends. Anna and her family appreciated the support of her family doctor. Dr. Jennifer Schatz, and her oncologist, Dr. Vincent Young.

The last bout with cancer ended with three months at 5 East Wing of the General Hospital in Ottawa where shecould not this time bounce back. The family would like to express their thanks to all levels of staff, ancillary, support and professional, at the General Hospital for their incredible efforts and care they gave Anna. Finally, Geoffrey, on behalf of the family would like to thank all Anna's dear friends who rallied round to keep Anna socially involved in shopping expeditions and coffee mornings, took Anna to doctors' and hospital appointments, and the wonderful meals and thoughtful gifts and cards they brought and sent. Her last journey would not have been sograced without you. Anna's wishes were to donate her body to medical science and to have no religious service, but to have a party with good food to celebrate her life.

Survived by sister Connie (late Donnie Sparling) and brothers Bernie (Linda) and Roger (Betty). Predeceased by siblings Floyd, Jimmy (late Bridget), Stan (late Ann). Marion (late Pat Lagace).

Rose (late Milton Hodgins), Joseph, Delmar (late Joyce). Shirley (late Pat O'Meara) and Ardel (late Bill Mulligan). Sister-in-law to Gerald Mayhew, John Mayhew, Jim Mayhew, Dora Greer, Marie Holoshka, Leona Milliken, Effie Stewart, Shirley Gordon and the late Michael Mayhew, late Claude Mayhew and late Muriel Cone. Gwen was born in Pontiac, QC and spent most of her adult life in Garson, ON before moving to Muskoka, ON. She will be remembered as a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, neighbour and friend and for her superior craftsmanship skills in knitting, crocheting, sewing and quilting.

A memorial service will be held in Shawville, QC at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation or Muskoka Community Foundation.
