Hillen joined the Black Watch Royal Highland Regiment of Canada in 1 936 and served overseas from 1940-1945. He was captured at Dieppe and was detained for over two years as a prisoner-of-war in Germany. After his repatriation NICHOLLS, Stephen With heavy hearts the Murphy 73S-57fl to Canada he studied at McGill university, graduating with a C.A. degree in 1955. He was a life member of both the Quebec and Ontario Order career, retiring in 1970.

Dunng that period Fred lived in Gaspe, Amos and Montreal, PQ before settling in Ottawa in 1949. Not content with one career, Fred pursued a second as a Clerk of the Court until well into his early 80s and became a favorite interviewee for local newspapers and radio stations. Fred loved music and had an extensive collection of organ music and choral works on the earliest vinyl LP records. He loved history, especially that of the Kings and Queens of England and he amassed an impressive collection of books about his beloved Island of Jersey. Fred family wish to express their sadness in the sudden passing of Stephen at home on Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at age 48.

In addition to insisting on the implementation of sound and sustainable forestry practices, he created a much improved working environment for the woodworkers in his organizations. Allan's contribution to improving the image of the Forestry industry was notable. His major achievements in this area were accomplished during his tenure as Chairman of the Woodlands Board of the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association. Following this rich career, spanning more than 40 years, Allan devoted a further 10 years to supervising Canadian Government Aid Programs in developing countries in Asia and South America.

During theirtravels, Allan and Jessie developed many friendships which have enriched their lives and those of their family. One of the countries that Allan and Jessie travelled to several times was Sri Lanka where they became involved and committed to the Ark, a school for children with special needs. Their support continues to this day. A celebration of Allan's life will be held at TRULL "NORTH TORONTO" FUNERAL HOME CREMATION CENTRE 2704 Yonge Street (5 blocks south of Lawrence) on Wednesday, July 16 at 1 1am. Since then Susan worked in support of municipal government at the RMOCCity of Ottawa.
