Jane is survived by her husband Dennis, daughter Jennifer (David) and son Shawn (Elizabeth). Proud Grandma to Melissa, Taylor, Danica and Kristian. Jane's life will celebrated at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to Capital Memorial Chapel www.capitalmemorial.ca. Dodie passed away peacefully on February 6, 2013 after suffering a stroke. Her devoted husband, Jim, tenderly cared for her to the end and she departed on her final journey surrounded by her loving family. Born in Calgary in 1930, she was the youngest of four siblings and the doted-upon only sister. Her family lived in several locales throughout Alberta and BC before finally settling in Victoria in 1940.

She met her future husband at the age of 14 years and they have been rarely apart in all that time. They married in 1950 and throughout Jim's career in the RCMP she created a comfortable home many times over for her family as they transferred around the country. After an extended posting in Ottawa, Jim retired and they moved back home to Victoria in 1990 to their Rockland Ave. residence where they enjoyed the freedom of condo life and having family nearby. Music was an essential part of Dodie's life.

As a girl she became an accomplished pianist and in later years she learned to play the organ. She also enjoyed reading, needlework, boating and travelling. Once the children were raised, Dodie found a rewarding career with the Royal Bank in Ottawa until her retirement. In recent years, Dodie mastered using a Kindle and a laptop on which she was an obsessive solitaire player. She greatly enjoyed boating with Jim and extending hospitality on their sailboat, Shadow Dance in Ontario and their trawler, Mer Blue in Victoria.

Many happy family times were spent aboard with the grandchildren acting as "crew" and earning them many awards at sailpasts. She particularly enjoyed their extended summer boating trips that took them as far as Desolation Sound and surrounding environs. She loved the tranquility of the boating life and being "unplugged" from the day-to-day management of Jim's busy social and volunteer activities. Jim may have been Captain of the good ship Forsyth, but Dodie was the Admiral and responsible for keeping it all afloat. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and recently a great-grandmother, she took great pride in her family and their achievements.

Dodie was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Bea Mauro and brothers Bob, Doug and Ray. She is survived by Jim, her loving husband of 62 years, three children: Lynda, Leslie and Brett and their respective spouses Jim, John and Meredith; six grandchildren: Steve, Robyn, Holly-Anne, Sean, Sarah and Michael and spouses Bethany, Jon, and Katrina; and three great Quinn, Kaelyn and Oliver. She also leaves many relatives and friends and held a special place in her heart for their dear friend, Carolyn Manley. A Remembrance Service and reception will be held in Victoria on Monday, February 11, 2013. Flowers are gratefully declined but her memory may be honoured with donations to the Heart Stroke Foundation of B.C.

He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him and the other to the LORD. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back, at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints.

He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it: "LORD, you said that once decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."
