She was bom on March 15, 1939 in Ottawa to the late Martin and Mary Ritz (nee Cronin). Shirley is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Ronald, her son Marc (Roxanne Poirier), her daughters Julie (Sean Blackburn) and Camile (Richard Percival), her six grandchildren Nicolas, Chloe, Stephan, Gabriele, Jacob and Isabelle, and her sister Joan Hickey. Mom was bom on October 29, 1912 in Sudbury, Ontario. The daughter of Finnish immigrants, she was raised in the Finnish community of Copper Cliff. She later married miner and lived in a number of small mining towns including Lynn Lake, Manitoba and Elliot Lake, Atikokan and Wawa in Northern Ontano. She moved to Ottawa in 1989 to be close to her daughters. Mom was an avid traveller and was always ready to take another trip. She was proud of her Finnish heritage and treasured her many trips to Finland to visit her cousins. The last trip to Yl-ojarvi, Finland two years ago marked the publication of a book on the history of her family going back five centuries. Mom was the oldest remaining member of the Mikkolafamily and was interviewed for the local newspaper. Often she said "I have had a wonderful life" and she did. She had close friends, a loving family, and a tremendous zest for living. Her inner strength, fierce independence, sense of humour and wisdom sustained her through life's challenges. She continued to live in dependently in her own apartment in Tannenhof Seniors' Co-operative. The kindness of her neighbours made her life all the richer. Predeceased by parents Hulda and Kalle Mikkola, her husband Toi-vo Lundy, brother Arro Mikkola and son-in-law Ron Crawley. She was the chenshed mother of daughters Helen Dube (Gaston) and Colleen Lundy. Devoted grandmother of Wayne Dub6, Col leen Seaman (Ben) and Allan Dube (Nada).
