Dear son of the late Charles and Mary (MacDonald) Furlong of Ottawa. Predeceased by his sister Helen and her late husband Jim O'Connell. Father Furlong is survived by his sister, Ruth, of Ottawa, widow of the late Charles LaRochelle.

He is also survived by his sister, Marion and her husband Frank Daignault of West Bloomfield, Michigan. Loving uncle of the Daignault Kathy, David, Ian, Mary, Christopher, Frances, Paul and Janet and their families, and also of the late infant nephew, Donald Charles LaRochelle. Father Furlong was born in Ottawa. He is a graduate of Saint Patrick's College Ottawa, and of the University of Toronto. He was Ordained a Basilian Priest June 29, 1956 at Saint Basil's Church, Toronto.

His first assignment after ordination was as a teacher at Saint Charles College, Sudbury, Ontario for several years. He next served at Assumption Church in Windsor. He then was assigned to Holy Rosary Church in Toronto where he spent many years, after which he served at Saint Basil's Church in Toronto for many years also. The Wake will be held at the Cardinal Flahiff Centre, Basilian Fathers' Residence 95 Saint Joseph Street, Toronto, Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the same address on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.

Predeceased by her 5 siblings. Throughout her life, Irene resided in Haileybury, Matachewan, Sudbury, Whitefish, Admaston and Renfrew. While continuing to devote much of her time to her large family, Irene was well known for her community work, kindness and compassion. Bruce was an avid golfer from age 7 and lived a life-long dream to compete at the highest levels of the game. As his many friends will attest, this was not an easy or direct journey. He was an accomplished amateur as a member at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club, became an assistant pro in Kelowna, caddied on the PGA Tour for a long time and then decided he wanted to play competitively once again. Bruce played several years on the Canadian Tour, one season on the South America Tour and in 2003 won the Tour School of the European Senior Tour at age He played 5 full seasons, over 80 tournaments, travelling from the Caribbean throughout Europe, the Middle East and Russia following his dream. Bruce returned to Kelowna in 2009 to support his ailing parents and to receive more regular medical care.

Bruce is survived sister, Christine Hollander (John), his brother, Ross (Adair) and nieces, Jessica (Scott), Rebecca, Alexis, and nephews, Andrew and Ben. He is survived by his cherished wife of 63 years, Mel, and children Jay (Jayne), Jocelyne (Pierre), Andrew (Andrea), and Alixe (Daniel). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Ben, Jessica, Meghan, Peter, Sarah, Olivia, and Helen. A graduate of McGill and Cambridge Universities, Arthur spent most of his career in Canada's foreign service, living abroad in Germany, India, the US and England. He had a special love for the property that he and Mel bought in 1962, where they built a cabin that became a family gathering place. Art lived an active retirement, volunteering, travelling, spending time at 'The Lake', and contributing to the community in the Mayfair Apartments, where he and Mel have lived since 1987.

He will be remembered for his charm, intellect, and generosity, friends. will be greatly missed by his family and At this time, services have not been planned.
