THE GETTYSBURG TIMES, SATURDAY, JULY 23, 1960 PAGE THREE LAMUM8A WILL SEEK AMERICAN ECONOMIC AIB By MILTON BESSER UNITED NATIONS, N.Y. tAP) --Premier Patrice Lumumba was flying to the United States today to seek aid for the Congo as the Communists and Western business interests raced to get a foothold in developing the new nation's economy. While shopping around for American capital and more technical aid. Lumumba is also expected to review the explosive military situation in the Congo with United Nations Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold. Hammarskjold canceled plans to leave Sunday for the Congo where the U.N.

has been funneling in a police force and announced he would remain in New York to see Lumumba. Still Danger Lumumba has been busy bolstering his nation's economy, but its political status remained dangerously unsettled. Before leaving Leopoldville, Lumumba signed a 50-year agreement with an American financier to develop his country's mineral and power resources worth an estimated two billion dollars. He also got bids from the Soviet Union and Communist East Germany to help build his nation's economy. The Premier had two thorny problems to review with Hammarskjold: withdrawal of Belgian forces from the Congo and the future of the rich Katanga province.

The Katanga Assembly has proclaimed itselt an independent republic, but the Lumumba government refuses to recognize the secession. Violence Flares Violence flared Friday near a Katanga mining center Belgian airborne troops fought Congolese mutineers. A Belgian spokesman said about 16 Congolese and two Belgians were killed and many wounded. The U.N. is faced with a problem of its own over interpretation of two Security Council resolutions calling for removal of Belgian Sketches By BEN BURROUGHS "THE OUTDOOR MAN" He's a man who likes to roam the woods when time permits him to for he knows that there is happiness 'neath skies of azure blue you can find him by a singing stream or beneath a shady tree for he knows beyond all knowing that the best of life is free some say he's an idle dreamer this, I do not believe for the smile upon his sun-kissed face leaves little to perceive it tells me he has found the way to detour wordly strife the outdoor man really knows how to get the best from life.

Centers can be established by the state only on request. Miss Curtis said the center will enlist the aid ol other agencies in the county in its operation. State nurses will cooperate in providing physical examinations for the children and giving "shots" against various diseases. One of the principal values of the center, she said, is in providing such health services and uncovering disease.

Where needed, work is carried out in connection with the local hospital. Because parents are not required to send their children to the center and do so only on their own volition, not more than 25 of the approximately 150 children of migrant laborers in the county are expected to attend the school. The program is earned out through the Department of Welfare of the state in cooperation with the Pennsylvania State University which has iiie job. on contract with the department, of setting up and staffing the centers.
