THE HERALD, Prcvo. Ulah-Paee 9 Allison Sets Howard Hits 15th Homer New Complications Could Delay Opening of World Chess Match Lake Wins, 8-6 As Salt SALT LAKE CITY (UPI) -Angel home run hitters knocked in five runs in the sixth inning Friday night as Salt lake outgunned Hawaii for an 8-6 win in the Pacific Coast leape. The Islanders were not cowed by the brace of homers and quickly caught up, tying the score at 6-6, but Salt Lake eked out another run on a series of singles in the seventh and yet another homer in the eighth iced the win, the 11th straight victory for the Angels. Hawaii scored first in the game on a John Werha: homer in the second inning, adding two more runs in the fifth. The Angels got on the score By IAN WESTERGREN REYKJAVIK, Iceland (UPD New complications, which might further delay the start of the world chess championship match between Brois Spassky of the Soviet Union and American Bobby Fischer, arose today when the chief arbiter left Iceland.

Lothat Sclimid, a West German grand master picked by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) as arbiter, flew home this morning and said he would not return until nexi Thursday when the se- i cond game is scheduled to be played. Schmid, who runs his own publishing firm in Bamberg, said he was going back to Germany because his son had been injured in a traffic accident. Schmid had invited world champion Spassky and challenger Fischer to come to the chess hall together Sunday to study the facilities and, hopefully, approve them. This touchy job will now be taken over by Gudmundur Arnlaugson, serving as Schmld's deputy. "This could be critical," said Fred Cramer, vice president of the U.S.

chess Federation. "Picking the board and the pieces is a much more difficult job than to referee the match as such." U.S. chess sources would not rule out the possibility of a further postponement of the first gamealready delayed nine days as a result of Schmid's departure. The first game of the 24-game match is scheduled to be played July 11. Fischer stayed indoors today observing his sabbath, whicl lasts from 6 p.m.

Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday. Fischer is a member of the California-based Fundamentalist sect called the Church of God. Spassky went salmon fishing with an Icelandic chess player, Froeystein Thobergson, who had invited both players to fly-to Northern Iceland where the salmon streams are rich. If popularity were a determining factor, Spassky would retain his title hands down.

Ches-mad Icelanders continually speculate who will win and compare the different personalities of the Soviet champio.i ana his American challenger. Spassky, a Russian, mixes freely and appears to be just about everybody's favorite. Fischer has in effect cut himself off. As one of his seconds put it, the 29-year-old New Yorker "lives in his own world." Record, Gets Pole Position BRISTOL, Tenn. (UPI) Bobby Allison posted 8 track record Friday and won the pole position for Sunday's Volunteer 500 stock car race at the Bristol International Speedway.

The Huevtuwn, driver drove his 1972 Chevrolet 106.097 miles per hour as the first 10 qualifiers won spots for the 267 mile race. Allison bested Richard Pet-ty's Volunteer mark of 103.589 but was shy of the absolute track record of 107.375 miles per hour which was set before NASCAR rules called for restrictor devices on carburetors. "etty grabbed the outside front row driving his 1972 Plymouth to a best lap of 105.151 miles per hour. Bobby Isaac of Catawba, N.C., was the only top driver failing to make a run at the pole position for the $38,725 Winston Cup series race. His 1972 Dodge developed meci-jnical trouble which his crew was unable to fix before Friday's trials were completed.

Isaac is expected to lead today's qualifying when the final 20 positions will be filled. LeeRoy Yarbrough of Columbia, S.C., was third qualifier in a 1971 Ford with a speed of 104.612 m.p.h. Cecil Gordon of Horse Shoe, N.C., was fourth in a Mercury at 103.347, There were three other Chevrolet drivers besides Allison in the top ten. Ren Kesclowski of Drayton Plains, was in 7th place with a 1970 Chevrolet. OwnersMakeChanges board in the fifth on a single and then caught fire in the sixth ith a three-run homer by Tom Silverio and a two-run circuit clout by Piily Parker, both to centerfield.

Hawaii scored single runs in the seventh and the eighth innings, the first after the Angel shortstop bobbled the ba'l and the second on a double by Ivan Murrell. The winning run came in the seventh when Bruce Christen-sen singled with two out, moved to third and scored on a single by relief pitcher Bob Stickles. Doug Howard's homer was his 15th of the season. Albuquerque got four in the first on the way to the 10-3 win widespread criticism because of his passive role during Lhe players' strike. Many observers believed the walkout could have been settled earlier if he had been allowed to intervene.

A player relations committee with its new membership of six members as compared to the old line-up of 10 will "obviously increase its effectiveness," Kuhn said. The executives did not get around to naming the six members, but Kuhn said they probably would include many of those already on the 10-man body. The committee will consist of the two league presidents, one member of each league's executive council, and one more man from each league to be appointed later, Kuhn said. Fischer's actions in turning up late for the match, which was scheduled to have begun last Sunday, and in fighting for more money have hurt his reputation here, "We don't like Fischer," said a Reykjavik waiter. "He might be a great chess player but he is behaving like a child." Spassky, 35, purportedly a journalist, arrived more thai; two weeks aga and moved into a hotel as just another guest.

He goes shopping clone, plays tennis and goes swimming with his advisers but without a police guard. He always has a ready smile for the many fans who want to exchange a word or get his autograph. He eats in the hotel restaurant. Fischer, when he arrived, was whisked directly from the plane to a villa on the outskirts of the city that was put at his disposal. Outside was a police guard.

For days he stayed indoors and made only two forays outsideonce in the early morning when he asked the police guard to take him to the hall where the match will be played and once to the countryside, where he went for a walk. Fischer then decided the house was too noisy and asked for another one, meanwhile moving to the presidential suite at the most luxurious hotel in town, the Loftleider. He has made no public appearances except at the draw to determine who would play white and thus get the first move in the opening game. Spassky won that draw. Substitute Racer Lowers Track Mark in Practice CHICAGO (UPI) Major league baseball owners have taken steps to avert a repetition of costly disputes with players such as the lengthy and embarrassing players' strike which delayed the start of the current season.

They met briefly Friday and emerged with a new arrangement which broadens commissioner's powers and streamlines the owners' player relations committee for quicker action. Commisser Bowie Kuhn said the executives voted unanimously to grant him the power to intervene immediately in a dispute. Formerly, the commissioner was required to give 20 day's notice before calling a meeting of the owners. Kuhn was the target of over Taccma. Doug Rau ran his record to 7-1 by going fhe route while Von Joshua and Dave Iopes pulled a double steal io highlight the first inning outburst.

Tucson took Eugene 5-2 with lefty Mike Baldwin going six innings to pick up the win, thanks to a nice relief job by veteran Charlie Hartenstein who got his ninth save. 30 ONLY NOW By JOHN G. EARNER GAINESVILLE, Gx (UPI)-George Follmer, a journeyman racer of 38 years, took three hours to get the feel of Roger Penske's turbo-charged Porsche and the blind bends of the Koad Atlanta course and then lowered the lap record by three seconds Friday in practice for Sunday's Canadian American Challenge Cup race. Thus Follmer, replacing the injured Mark Donohue on 24 hours' notice, made it clear he was continuing the Penske challenge to Team McLaren, whose cars have dominated this series virtually since its inception. Follmer's time of 1.14:8 well under the track record of 1:17:4 was only a second better than Denny Hulme, the No. 1 McLaren driver.

Hulme won the opener at Mosport Park, Ontario, after outlasting Donohue's challenge in the Porsche. Preparations for the race were marked by backing and filling in the lead teams. Donohue, during private practice here Monday, rode his Porsche through a scarifying, end-over-end, barrier-smashing crash when its rear deck flew off on the back straight. It totalled the car no great disaster for a team which always carries a spare but it also tore up the cartilage and ligaments in the Indianapolis 500 champion's left knee.

It was decided Thursday night that it would have to be operated on, and Follmer was called in from California to take Donohue's place. Donohue, at the track Friday on crutches and in apparent pain, said he would enter an Atlanta hospital Saturday for surgery by a football surgeon. Cards Milwaukee whipped Oakland, 9- Detroit beat Chicago, 6-4, Minnesota dcwned New York, 5-2, Kansas City defeated Cleveland, 6-3, and Boston topped California, 5-3, in 10 innings. Dusty Baker singled home Darrell Evans in the seventh inning to give Atlanta a second game victory over Pittsburgh. Righthander Jim Hardin held hard-hitting Pirates to seven hits in the nightcap to gain his second straight victory.

In the opener, Gene Alley hit three-run homer and Milt May, filling in for catcher Manny Sanguillen, had a five-for-five performance. Dave Cash, Gene Clines and Al Oliver each had three hits. Jack Aker, taking over with runners on first and second in ninth, snuffed out a Cincinnati rally to preserve Chicago starter Burt Hooton's seventh victory of the season. Sutton pitched a three-hitter and was backed by a 13-hit attack as Los Angeles defeated New York. Sutton allowed only bunt single by Bud Harrelson the first and singles by Ed Kranepool in the eighth and Karrelson in the ninth in posting his 10th victory against four defeats.

Stewart, signed to Team McLaren to replace last year's series champion, Revson, said his ulcer would force him to limit his driving to Grand Prix events. So the team promptly rehired Revson, who won this race last year for the orange cars. Barring wholesale breakdowns, the only cars that appeared to have a hope of staying near the Team McLaren and Penske entries were the Shadow, a new all-black version of last year's all-black and almost non-functioning Shadow, and a Lola T310 which was being flown in from London for David Hobbs and would have only Saturday to get set up for the race.

Fun With Photography By BOBBY ALLEN LIGHT VS. LIGHTING What's the difference between light and lighting, as far as photography goes? It's the difference between "artificial" or man-made lighting and "natural" or daylight. Many photographers prefer natural to artificial light for a very good reason. No matter how well it is staged, we are often conscious of artificial light when we see a finished picture. It has been "staged," and there is always a risk that the result will seem stiff, unreal.

For the amateur, daylight is not something he has to learn about. We all know what it is and how it works without even thinking about it. We can simply look and know whether the subject is well highlighted or in shadow, etc. So we can forget about the light and concentrate on other aspects of picture taking. The result can provide a feeling of reality, of the actual world, which is hard to achieve with "lighting." If you'd like fresh light on your camera or other equipment, we can help you with everything from lighting accessories and electronic flashes to the right film for every need.
