Slaughter Guides Tech To 14-6 Win Over Pokes By PRANK ADAMS HUSTON, La. Louisiana Tech passing ace Mickey Slaughter, eclipsed for-two periods by freshman sensation Billy Laird, came off the bench in the fourth quarter and guided the Bulldogs to a 14-6 victory over the Me- Neese Cowboys here Saturday night. An overflow crowd of 8,000 saw the Cowboys "Tech Jinx" stay intact. It was the tenth loss for the Cowboys in eleven meetings with the Bulldogs and put a serious crimp in their Gulf States conference title plans. The loss evened McNeese's record a and gave Tech a sweet opening victory.

Laird, a freshman form Shreveport, guided the Tech attack will, but couldn't produce a score, after McNeese's rushing tactics bottled up the Bulldog veteran. The Cowboys launched a sustained march mid-way in the second period to grab the lead after a determined defensive stand, led by Lou Eschete, Ken Guilbeaux, and Gerald Conner had stopped a Tech threat at the Cowboy 16. McNeese drove 84 yards in 11 plays to score. The big gainers were a 17-yard keeper by quarterback Tommy Thompson that opened the drive and an 18-yard Thompson to Carol LeBlanc pass that gave the Pokes a first down at the Tech 15. Three plays later Thompson drove through a gaping hole at right tackle for a touchdown from the eight.

Southern HATTIESBURG. Miss. (AP) The dazzling passing of quarterback Billy Coleman sparked Mississippi Southern to a 29-0 victory over Southwestern Louisiana Saturday night. Slaughter hit Corky Corkern for 15 yards and Lebenne gained six. And offensive interference penalty pushed the Bulldogs to the 37 but Slaughter hit Corkern at the 16 for a first down.
