The true story of Hendra life, briefly sketched, is as follows: Me was horn in Portsmouth, in 1811. to which place his parents emigrated from Bordeaux, France. When twelve years old they moved with their two sons, Solomon sud Kdward, to this city. Edward en? gaged later in the cabinet business, and in 18M2 married Cynthia Moore. He laid a substantial foundation for a fortune, but it was swept away by business reverses.

Mrs. Hesdra, in whose namo the property was vested, died in February, 1870, at an advanced age, and left her property, val? ued st 900,000, to ber husband. He could lind no alli at lind, and the relatives retuned to settle by allowing him even a sixth share. After a long and protracted search among old papers, Mr.

It was executed in 1870at Nyack. lins will was Offered for probate, and the fi'-irs contested it, al? leging that Peter Stephens, a Justice of the Pesos, woo attested the document, bad signed to it ths names ot W. Canfield, another witness, and that of Hendra. Tbe contest ran through 1880, un? til October, when Surrogate Calvin sustained the will.
