"We'd like to say good night, but we have to say good bye," evening anchor Charles Brown told viewers at the end of the 10 p.m. Kriday broadcast. The demise of the Casper CBS affiliate, and the loss of about 25 jobs, came faster than planned, Brown said Saturday. Ed OToole of KfiWC-TV's Cheyenne affiliate KCiWNTV distributed final paychecks and a memo stating: "Unfortunately, your employment with us will terminate at the end of your scheduled shift for this week ending Sunday, June 4." But the operations personnel didn't want to work during the weekend after they were laid off, so Friday heralded the end, Brown said. KGWC-TV, he said, "does not exist for all practical purposes." KGWC-TV formed as KCWY-TV in 1980 and shut down after multiple ownership and management changes, high turnover of personnel and persistent rumors of pending layoffs.

During that time, it moved to its new offices and studio at 2500 CY Ave. from its offices on North Center Street. The station's closure leaves Casper with only one television station with news programming, KTWO-TV. ABC affiliate KFNB-TV has no news programming. U.S.
