PACK BKJHTBEX BLYTHIVILLK (ARK.) COURIER NEW! THURSDAY, DBCIMBBR fl. TrumanOrdersDetailed Preparations for Visit By Winston Churchill By JOHN >M- HIOHTOWER WASHINGTON, Deo. 12, (AP) — President Trumau lias ordered detailed preparations made for his talks with Prime Minister Churchill hero next month despite Churchill's reluctance to propose a list o( problems for discussion. U.S. officials said today the United States side of Hie two-power meeting is being worked up on the assumption that Churchill will want to go into the whole range of policies governing relations between the two big Western powers and Russia us well (is specific Anglo- American issues. Both the State and Defense Departments are at work on the detailed listings. Churchill sent word about two weeks ago that he did not. plan to draw up an agenda for his scries ol meetings with the President, beginning Jan, 3. The American Embassy in London has been directed nevertheless to seek Ihe fullest possible information on wlmt the prime minister has In mind in coming here. Even though Churchill does not directly tackle financial matters In his talks with Mr. Truman, liow- evcr, it is believed by American authorities thai lie will seek to set ttie stage lor substantial American help by stressing the parallel interests of the two countries in world affairs and emphasising a need for close partnership and sharing of nimcnt on Formosa. The United Slates has tnk- n a stand against both claims. responsibility. Washington authorities believe that unless some specific information about Churchill's concept of the talks is forthcoming in advance, the result* mas' not De RS profitable us they conld be. Even nt best, it Is expected that several disagreements *tll develop over such issues as the Churchill proposal for a meeting with Generalissimo Stalin of Russia, the organization of Western Eviropean defenses and Anglo American differences of policy In the Par East. Truman to Bear Down Present indications are that Mr Truman will hear down heavily on all three of these questions: 1. The President has said repeat edly that he does not look forwnri to a meeting with Stalin unless Lh Soviet Premier comes to Washing ton—something everyone here con Elders a practical impossibility. On doubtedly Mr. Truman will seek t discourage Churchill's espousal this project. 2. Recent Churchill fitatenif bearing on the defense bnltd-up i Western Europe are described b administration leaders here as dis appointing. Churchill has said tha he does not consider the danger o war with Russia as great now as was at the time of the Berlin crls three years npo. American offlcla aro apprehensive that this means he believes there is less urgency than they see In getting on with the task of rearmament; they believe the danger of an aggressive Russian move is greater liow that it was three years ago, clue to the Western build-up, "and will remain great until the West has'military power in being to make any Communist aggression too costly to undertake. 3.
