Secula Martin Ditsky TAMAQUA The Right to Read project of the Tamaqua Area School District sponsored a pilot preschool screening and assessment program for children who would be entering kindergarten classes at the Hometown School in September 1977. Since that time, Mary Kingsbury, experiences and readiness skills. Kindergarten teachers attempt to assess these stages of development in order to plan a program which will provide for each child's individual needs. In order to ascertain that teachers can accomplish this goal in a more expeditious and accurate fashion, beginning in Sep-' tember'each child wilkmeet with a kindergarten teacher, on a one to one basis, to establish an assessment profile.

Abbott Lansford, died Saturday at his home. He was an Army yeteran and was, a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Lansford. He was employed by Morgan Knitting Mills, Hometown.

Surviving are his wjdow, the former Mar- -garet Pisanick, two sons, Michael of West Reading and Martin of Bethlehem; a brother John of Detroit, five sisters, Anna, wife of George Sotak, Hazleton; Sister M. Gratia, of Hyde Park, Reading; Pauline Ditsky, Bethlehem; Margaret, wife of Andrew Lesnko, Tresckow and Agnes of Roslyn, Montgomery County. Services will be held Tuesday morning -from the A. M. Sverchak Funeral Home, Lansford, with Mass of Christian Burial in St.

Michael's Church. Mary D. Dormer Mary D. Dormer, a former resident of Minersville, died July 17 in Kent General Hospital, Dover, Del. She moved to Southampton, Bucks County, in 1950 and shortly after that developed multiple sclerosis.

She was the daughter of the late John V. and Mary Murphy Dormer of Cass Township. She attended the Minersville Schools and graduated from the Braun School of Music in 1932 and, from West Chester State College in 1937 receiving a degree in music'. She taught for a few years in South Carolina and then returned to Minersville. She was employed at Malarkey's Music Store for 10 years and then moved to Southampton.

Musically, Miss was associated wjth the Johnny Schmocker Boys, Women's Choral Group, the Elks' Chorus and Philadelphia Piano Ensemble. Surviving are a sister Margaret, wife of Richard Tritt of Dover, with whom she resided for two years; two brothers, Frank of Culpepper, Va. and John of Cleveland She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph in 1973'and Thomas in 1976. Funeral services were held Friday from the McGhree Funeral Home, Southampton. She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Southampton, where Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Mon-signor' Francis Interment was in-the Holy Sepiilchre Cemetery, Cheltenham.

Parents will also meet with the teacher, following the child's assessment, to discuss special concerns and to provide greater input to the teacher regarding the individual needs of each child. The program has received the endorsement of the Pennsylvania Department of Janet Sakusky, Debbie Sindall, Kathy Snyder and Lynda Wolfe met to determine a means of instituting a district wide assessment program for pre-school children in the Tamaqua area who will be entering kindergarten in September 1978. An explanation of the program will be sent to parents of children who are registered for kindergarten for the 1978-79 term.

The project was instituted because children entering kindergarten have different Jacob R. Secula, 58, of 527 Troutwlne Centralia, was pronounced dead on arrival at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Ashlan'd Hospital. He was a self employed carpenter and was an Army veteran of World War IL Mr. Secula was born in Mount Carmel July 8, 1920, a son of the late Jacob and Sophia Bojack Secula.

He was married to; the former Alice Hanley of Centralia on Dec. 31, 1946 in the Kulpmont Methodist Church. He attended the Kulpmont Schools and was a member of the Pottsville Foursquare Gospel Church. Surviving are his widow; one daughter, Nancy, at home; three brother's, John and Robert, both of Marion Heights; Michael of King of Prussia; nine sisters, Mrs. Mary Mudrick, Philadelphia; Josephine, wife of Michael Collins, New York Mrs.

Helen Mola, New Jersey; Anna, wife of Peter Labowski, 'Marion Heights; Mrs. Martha Yoga New Jersey; Mrs." Catherine Klemick, New Jersey; Rosemarie, wife of Nicholas Spieles, Norristown; Mrs. Dolores Seroski, Nevada; Patricia, wife of Harold Arquet, New York.1 Services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 5 the Fourquare 1 Gospel Church, Pottsville with interment in the Odd wfellows Cemetery, Centralia. -The Joseph Stutz Funeral Home, Centralia, is in charge of arrangements. i Anna Clemens Clemens, 100 years old, of 65 S. One week only! William Cody of 26 Ktmber New Philadelphia, died at the Good Samaritan Hospital late Saturday evening. Mr. Cody was a son of the late Abraham and Ellen Cullen Cody. He was a member of Holy Family Church, New Philadelphia, and its Holy Name Society and American Legion Post 677 and Good Intent Fire Company, also of New Philadelphia.

Mr. Cody was a veteran of World War I. Surviving are a niece, Rose Helen O'Ha-ren, with whom he resided, and a nephew, John O'Hareh of Pasco, Washington, Funeral services will be held Thursday morning from the Bartashus Funeral Home, Tfew Philadelphia. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Family Church and interment will be made in the parish cemetery. Fred D.

Knorr Fred D. Knorr, 83, of RD Klingerstown died Saturday morning at the Pottsville Hospital. He had been a patient five weeks. Mr. Knorr was born in RD Klingerstown Dec.

7, 1894 and lived there all his life. He was a son of the late Lewis and Melinda Beissel Knorr and was a retired lumberman and, farmer. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ Church, RD Klingerstown. He was married Dec. 24, 1914 to the former Ursula Wolfgang at Lykens.

Surviving, in addition to his widow, are six children: Guy of RD Klingerstown, Claude of Gratz, Lawrence of RQ Hegins, Lester of Middletown, Faye, wife of Clyde Bixler of West Chester, and Bernice, wife of David Harter of Middletown; 18 grandchildren; 20 greatr grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning from, the Lawrence E. Rothermel Funeral 'Home, RD Klingerstown. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, RD Klingerstown. Rev.

Elden Ehrhart, his pastor, of RD Klingerstown will officiate. There will be no viewing Monday evening. Edna Achenbach Mrs. Edna Achenbach, Country Club Road, Fountain Springs, died Sunday after-noon at her home. She was born in Fountain Springs Oct 10, 1896, a daughter of the late Atkin and Kate (Seitzinger) Seltzer.

She was a member of Christ Church, Fountain Springs. Her husband, Henry "Jack" Achenbach died in 1963. Surviving are one daughter, Eleanor1, wife of Joseph Bilder, Ashland RD; three grandchildren, one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning from the' Kull Funeral Home, Ashland, with the Rev, Warren C. Riedel, pastor of Christ Church, officiating.

Surviving are three sons, Stanley lowski of Frackville, Charles Matlowski of Naples, Fla. and Edward Gubala, also of Naples; three daughters, Mrs. Helen Dom-l broski and Leona, wife of George Beaver, both of Shenandoah; and Hedy, wife of R.C.

Hunter of Naples; 16 grandchildren 28 great- grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday from the Oravitz Home for Funerals, Shenandoah. Mass will be celebrated in Holy Ghost Polish National Catholic Church and interment will be made in St. Casimir's Cemetery. Summit Hill, a retired mining died Sunday in Coaldale Hospital.

He was employed for more than 50 years by 'the former Lehigh Navigation Coal Company. He and his. wife, the former Bertha McChalicher, observed their 65th wedding anniversary in April. 1 Mr. McMichael was a member of the Summit Hill Church of the Panther yaDey United Methodist Parish.
