The tramway's information line later reported the elevated line "not running due to a malfunction in the system," and said alternate minibus service was being provided between Roosevelt Island and Queens subways.

By train from Manhattan, commuters can take the train to 36th Ave. and transfer to the red minibus to Roosevelt Island. By bus from Manhattan, commuters can take the Q-101 at Second Ave. to Queensboro Plaza, cross the street and take the Q-102 to Roosevelt Island. The crash occurred about 12:25 a.m.
