2B THE GETTYSBURG TIMES, TUESDAY, JULY 17, 1990 Scoreboard Fastbreaks BHS posts dates for physicals IGLERVILLE Biglerville High School will be conducting phsicals for its fall sports beginning July 26. Listed below is the breakdown of physicals with day, time and sport involved: July 26 varsity football, 6 p.m. Aug. 3 varsity field hockey, soccer and varsity girls' tennis, 1 p.m. Aug.

9 --junior high football and field hockey, 6 p.m. BHS announces soccer meeting IGLERVILLE Biglerville High School will be holding a meeting of all students from ninth through 12th grade interested in playing soccer in the fall. The meeting will be held July 24 at 6 p.m. in the Atletic Center wrestling room. It is the first year Biglerville High School is offering soccer as a sport.

This season, the Canners will be competing on the junior varsity level only, with 14 matches and one scrimmage scheduled. The team will play its matches at Oakside Park. Pending approval of the Upper Adams School Board, John OTJay of Gettysburg will likely be the head coach, according to Athletic Director Bill Celio. Hopkins gets new lacrosse coach ALTIMORE (AP) University of Pennsylvania lacrosse coach Tony Seaman on Monday was named head coach at Johns Hopkins University. Seaman, 48, replaces Don Zimmerman, who was forced to resign June 10 after his team posted a 6-5 record and lost to Princeton in the first round of the NCAA Division I playoffs.

Ssaman guided the Quakers to six appearances in the NCAA Division I tournament in his eight years at Penn and to four Ivy League titles. He was Division I Coach of the Year in 1983 and 1984 and compiled an 88-39 record. In his one season at C.W. Post his team was 13-3. "There is a great tradition of lacrosse at Johns Hopkins and it is an honor for me to be a part of that tradition," said Seaman.

"I have some excellent talent as upperclassmen and some excellent freshmen coming into school. I can't wait to get started." Seaman previously had been head coach at Lynbrook (N.Y.) High School on Long Island. He is the 20th coach in the 110-year history of Hopkins lacrosse. The graduate of GUNY-Cortland will be the first Blue Jays coach in 40 years with no Hopkins' ties as a player or coach. Johns Hopkins has won or shared 42 national lacrosse championships.

Zimmerman's teams were 73-15 in seven years and won three national titles, the last in 1987. AP Ijisrrphnto WINNER U.S. runner Michael Johnson, right, beats U.S. Leroy Burrel inthe 200-meter race Monday in Barcelona's Olympic stadium during the city of Barcelona International Athletics Meeting. Johnson ran in 20.06.

Burrell beaten in Olympic prep ARCELONA, Spain (AP) Michael Johnson, the newest American sprint sensation, beat the season's top sprinter, Leroy Burrell of the United States, at 200 meters Monday night in the Barcelona Invitational track meet. Competing in Montjuich Stadium, site of the track and field events for the 1992 Olympics, Johnson covered 200 meters in 20.06 seconds. Burrell was timed in 20.14. Burrell's top event is the 100 meters, in which he has the season's best time, 9.96. He's preparing for a showdown at that distance against two-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis during the Goodwill Games at Seattle later this month.

Lewis, who hasn't raced Burrell yet this season, competed only in the long jump Monday night, extending his nine-year winning streak in the event with a leap of 27 feet, 11 inches. Robert Emmiyan of the Soviet Union was second at 27-3 3 Dolphins aim for NFL playoffs IAMI (AP) Don Shula says things will be different for the Miami Dolphins in 1990: There will be no team slogan. Shula announced at the start of training camp last season that 1989 would be "Turnaround Time." Instead, the once- mighty Dolphins failed to make the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. So, when the Dolphins opened their 25th training camp on Monday, Shula declined an invitation to choose a phrase for this season. "I'm not a slogan guy," he said.

But Shula did establish a goal to avoid a repeat of last season's final five games, when the Dolphins won only once and finished 8-8. The cave-in hurt even more because Miami blew leads in three of the losses. "I'm a little bit upset about what happened last year and tha fact that when we did have the opportunity to get things turned around and get back into the playoffs, we didn't proceed," Shula said. "All of our thought and effort and dedication is going to be to make ourselves a better team and to win in the fourth quarter and to win at the end of the year when it counts."
