RAFFENSPERGER, Attorney The parents of the Mifflinburg area students who died from injuries received in a May 1989 automobile accident have established a scholarship fund in their memory. The fund, the Heather and Michelle Streett Memorial Scholarship, represents donations from the Streetts and others. At the time of the accident, Michelle was a seventh-grader in the Mifflinburg Area Middle School, where she was vice president of the student council, an honor student and a cheerleader. Heather was a fourth-grader at Mifflinburg Elementary School, very active in soccer and the swimming team. Scholarships awarded through the fund don't necessarily have to go to the "best or brightest" students, but rather to students who show the ability and interest to succeed in furthering themselves in a field of study after high school, and not necessarily college.

They must have financial need and possess some attributes that are remembered in Heather and Michelle: kindness, a zest for life and involvement in the school and community. Scholarship recipients filled out an application and were then selected by an eight-member advisory committee, including five community members, the Streets, and the high school principal. This year the committee chose the first recipient and extended its best wishes for success to Mark Oliveri, Chestnut Mifflinburg. Mark plans to attend Penn State University. The award was presented June 1 at an awards assembly by the girls' sister, Lisa.

Additional contributions may be made through the Busines Adminsstraion, Mifflinburg Area School District, 178 Maple Mifflinburg. Got news?
