a bright child, during the wonderful summers at Lake Bernard, particularly Paddy's Bay, from 1939 to 1945, his artistry produced a number of copies of a precocious weekly news sheet which were distributed to neighboring cottagers. Philip was a passionate and irrepressible bibliophile and an authentic authority on chess, the history of boxing and greco-roman and catch-ascatch-can wrestling. It was because of his serious interest in the history of boxing that he was instrumental in Cape Bretoner Jack Munroe being posthumously inducted into the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame and for which Philip was modestly honored. Mr. Munroe, who was an outstanding athlete and boxer, rose to fame after having gone four rounds, successfully, with the then world heavyweight champion, James J.

Jeffries, on December 19, 1903 in Butte, Montana. Mr. Munroe was in turn the subject of a book, The Legend of Jack Munroe, written by Dorothy Farmiloe and for which Philip contributed the subject matter of Mr. Munroe's boxing prowess. Philip also continued a lifelong interest and research in, inter alia, criminal justice, such as the Adolph Beck case, a notorious incidence of wrongful conviction by mistaken identity that led to the creation of the English Court of Criminal Appeal in 1907.

And Philip all the while retaining a prodigious memory and a mischievous propensity. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 174 Wilbrod Street, on Monday, December 5, 2010 at 10.30 a.m. A reception will follow at Whelan's Funeral Home. Internment Notre Dame Cemetery.

We often lay awake at night, When the world is fast asleep, And take a walk down memory lane, With tears upon our cheeks.

Remembering you is easy, We do it everyday, But missing you is a heartache, That never goes away. We hold you tightly within our hearts, And there you will remain, Life has gone on without you, But it never will be the same.
