Bom in Wimbledon, England, Dr. Field came to Canada with his par ents in the early 1900's. He grew up in Edmonton and attended the University of Alberta; MSc 1929 and DSc 1937.

An eminent physicist, Dr. Field di rected Canada's wartime anti-submanne re search program and was awarded the MBE for his services. He retired in 1966 as Vice-Chairman of the Defence Research Board and moved with his wife, Jean, to Bonita Springs on Florida's west coast where they had a long and happy retirement Dr. Field is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jean Field (nee Richards), his son Gregory, daughter Denise and grandchildren: Michael, Caroline, David, Scott, Jason, Amanda, Patricia and Bill Field. He was predeceased by his son Bob.
