Retired from the National Research Council after 30 years. An athlete in his youth (soccer), champion tennis player and avid skier. A raconteur of many old war stories.

He was an inspiration to all the lives he touched. He left behind an enjoyment of life that is the legacy of love. His optimism, strength and courage serve as lessons to us all. deWIT.LeoW. 58, of Hammonds Plains, NS, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, December 26, 2001, at the VG Site, QEII, after a courageous battle with Lymphoma. Bom in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, he was a son of Afra, North Vancouver, and the late Leo J. de Wit. He immigrated with his family to North Vancouver, BC, in 1956.

He was a retired member of the R.C.M.P., having served for 26 years in Newfoundland, New Brunswick and Ontario. Leo was most recently employed with the Halifax International Airport Authority. He was an avid gardener and calligrapher. He is survived by his loving wife Helen (nee Snow), daughter Lee-Ann Dittrich (Michael), Yellowknife and son Jeffrey, Ottawa. Opa to Jacquelyn, Timothy and Nicholas.
