New York, June 4 (AP-- The Normandie, after stopping at quarantine for the customary port examination of a foreign ship, weighed anchor at 12-38 p.

m. S. T. Monday and proceeded toward her pier at the foot of West 48th street, the Hudson river. The ship berthed about 1:45 p.

m. The mammoth liner wrested at least two trans-Atlantic speed records on her maiden voyage. The French line flagship covered the distance of 2,971 miles from Bishop's Bock to Ambrose Lightship at an average speed of 29.98 knots. The elapsed time was 99 hours, 5 minutes. It was announced that the Normandie had broken all speed records, covering the 3,192 miles from Southampton to Ambrose at a speed of 29.68 knots--a total time from Southampton of 107 hours, 33 minutes.

The average Sunday and Monday speed was 31 55 knots, the highest ever achieved by a trans-Atlan- tic liner. JOHN GILBERT'S FOURTH MARITAL VEN'TURE ENDS Los Angeles, June 4 (AP) -John Gilbert, film actor, for the fourth time is free of marital ties. Virginia Bruce, screen actress, court records showed, has just obtained her final decree of divorce. She charged cruelty. Gilbert and Miss Bruce were married August 10, 1932.

In 1929 Gilbert and Ina Claire, stage and screen actress, eloped by airplane to Las Vegas, and were married. A rift came after a little more than a year, however, ami they were divorced in 1931.
