extraordinary degree dramatic and lyric qualities of the highest quality 4 Miss Ethel Barrymore is quite in love with the character which she plays in Sunday the new fouract play in which Charles Frohman soon presents her here It makes a great difference in the portrayal of a character if the actor is in sympathy with it It is in its heart interest that Sunday is specially appealing Two acts of the play are laid in a western mining camp and two in Brinthorpe Abbey in England affording a striking contrast 4 For a play to run over three months to crowded houses in New York is a record to be proud of Such is the record of Sunday in which Miss Ethel Barrymore has made a pronounced hit and which comes to the Salt Lake theatre on Sept 21 The character which Miss Barrymore plays is quite different from others in which she has distinguished I herself It is that of a western girl the heroine of a mining camp who goes to England The play is Intensely dramatic but through it all there is a delightful vein of humor Miss Bar rymores triumph in the dramatic portions of Sunday as well as on the comedy side has been complete IIiiIII THE POPULAR MOUNTAIN WAY During any season of the year to Sacred Heart academy was struck by Rev Thomas Edward Shields Ph of the Catholic University ersity of America who in a stimulating talk to the teachers on his favorite sUbjectpedagogydiscussed for one apparently very short hour the allab sorbing topic of Christian education He presented in a most favorable light the benefit to be derived from the Correspondence respondence System a new scheme about to be put into execution whereby Catholic teachers may receive aid and encouragement through the columns of the numerous Catholic papers and inurn impart to colaborers the result of their experience So wellknown and highly appreciated is this learned divine that we trust his visits to Ogden may be many and that his admirable lectures on the Psychology of Educa ion may be in the hands of every Catholic teacher in the land Though Tuesday Sept 5 was the day named for the reorganization of classes yet it was with Our Ladys blessing on the Feast of the Nativity that the dominating spirit of the his winning personality handsome face and athletic figure he was a noble type of fine young manhood I Home and parents were ever dear to His bojish heart and this alone would speak volumes of his character could nothing more be said A brief time was his but with filial reverence and tender affection he made life beautiful and bright for those around him His mission of love is ended in this world but the tenderest memories will linger forever in the hearts of those who loved him well Into the light of heaven with no sorrow or sin to darken his pure young soul he is at peace resting forever on the breast of the Father I who doeth all things well Texas and the indications point to ta year of unparalleled success for Sacred Heart academy 4 St Josephs school also reopened under most favorable conditions and the register includes many of the old familiar names besides promising new ones As the years pass and old residents view with gratification the younger members of St Josephs congregation with joy they instinctively turn to the dear old school which has ever been the cradle of religious training and education Ogden and to which many a successful merchant and I professional man turns with gratitude I as he blesses God for the first dear lessons learned at St Josephs and above all for its ever loyal friend and director Father Cushnahan A word to Sacred Hearts pupils old and new During the happy vacation days just ended many of you in this region of grand old mountains have doubtless stood at the base of some steep hill desiring tQ climb to the summit yet dreading the physical tire that must follow A kind voice said in reassuring tones Let me assist you With a little exertion and good will you reached the top and felt amply repaid by the expanse of sKy the invigorating breeze and the consciousness that you had succeeded in the venture Toda dear girls we are situated in like manner The work of each class is difficult but you will feel rewarded when the June breezes blow if you have exerted yourselves as you should So many students forget that the first months of the school year write the initial letters on their certificates of merit Therefore do not worry in June but work in September Have you the kindly assistance neces sary in the toilsome ascent of this hill of knowledge No one who has been a pupil at Sacred Heart can deny this fact He who is the source of knowledge dwells in our midst and our very home is dedicated to his loving Heart Courage then dear girls and victory will be yours if you but keep the end in view and remember that it crowns the work Sacred Heart Academy 4 A damage suit in which S50UCO is claimed from the Southern Pacific company was filed in the district court by I Michael OLaughlin who claims that I sum is due
