The second game in this Lasker- Showaiter contest began yesterday afternoon at four o'clock.

By agreement each man was limited to an hour to each 18 moves. 'Showalter had the white and tbs attack. He opened with a "Rhy Lopez" which tvas met by the "Berlin defense." This he answered by a study of hi? own which is bold and brilliant. After his 35th move Lasker resigned and the game was won. Lasker's time was two hours and one minute while Showalter had used but 1.40J of his time.

Lasker was considerably piqued at his defeat which he attributed to his long play the day before. He paid Showalter a great compliment in asking that the third game be postponed until Saturday that he might rest up. This was agreed to, but afterwards be proposed a draw game, the contest to be played again in a new series at a luture date and under strict rules. This was finally agreed to as the match was even so far and Lasker had the right attack in the next game, an advantage which amounts to considerable between faultless players. This afternoon Lasker will play against Showalter in a consultation game, each to coasult witk chosen players from the association.
