ARTS SATURDAY, AUGUST 30, 1997 H5 Canadian firm proposes new home for Oscars THE OTTAWA CITIZEN Hollywood development would include theatre with 3,300 seats atre and the Walk of Fame. For the past three decades, the Oscar gala has alternated between the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. To create a permanent venue for the Academy Awards, TrizecHahn would build a theatre at the Hollywood and Highland project. TrizecHahn is still in talks with the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency and Metropolitan Transportation Agency for a package of investment incentives and other planning approvals before proceeding with construction. The project has won the support of Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan and Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg, whose district includes Hollywood.

The TrizecHahn team is led by senior vice-president David Malmuth, a former Walt Disney Co. executive who played a leading role in Disney's renovation of 42nd Street and Times Square in New York. The project's initial tenant is Mann Theatres, a unit of Cinamerica Theatres LP, a partnership of Time Warner Inc. and Viacom Inc. It plans to operate a new 14-screen multiplex and premier movie theatre at the site.
