Predeceased by her brothers and sisters, including Sister St. Thomas, gsic. She leaves to mourn her religious community and her niece, Stephanie Retty. Sister's life of service was spent teaching children.

Beginning as an elementary teacher in Timmins, she then spent many years teaching music in Timmins, Ottawa and Vancouver. She also assisted in parish ministry. Following her long years of active ministry, ter moved to the Motherhouse in Pembroke and finally to Shalom Residence, Pembroke. Resting at the Grey Sisters' Motherhouse, 700 Mackay Street, Pembroke, from p.m. on Monday, August 10th, until the Resurrection Liturgy in the Motherhouse Chapel on Tuesday, August 11th at 10:30 a.m.

After arriving in Canada in 1948 via Sussex, England, she worked in the pathology departments of Pembroke, and Ottawa Hospitals; 28 years with the Department of Health and Welfare followed. She retired in 1989. She was an avid traveller and patron of the seven arts. She is survived by her son Erkki and daughter-inlaw Lisa.

Louise C. Washburn (nee Coakley), 87, of Ottawa, Ontario passed away peacefully at Ottawa's Riverside Hospital on Sunday, August 9. after a brief illness. Born in Douglas Harbour, New Brunswick and married to Walter James Washburn of Saint John, NB, she lived most of her full and active life in the Ottawa area. was a leader, active in both the Canadian 'Girl Guides of Canada and Southminster United Church.

Her long career in Guiding began as Brown Owl at the 9th Ottawa Brownie troop at St. Matthias' Anglican Church, going on to serve as Parkdale District Commissioner, Central Division Commissioner and Deputy Area Commissioner. She was awarded the Canadian Girl Guides Medal of Honor in 1962 and made a life member in 1966. She was a steward and an elder of Southminster United Church with her late husband Walter, who passed away in 1990. Both she and Walter were also active members of the National Capital Chapter of the Hammond Organ Society.

Survivors: Two sons, Norman A. of Syracuse, New York, and Eric of Toronto, Ontario; Jeanette Brisborne (nee Coakley) of Pickering, Ontario; nephews Ralph G. Coakley of Port Moody, British Columbia and Charles M. Coakley of Minto, New Brunswick. Services: Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mary was born on June 9, 1916, in Toronto, Ontario, the second of four daughters of Grace McMillan and Roy Charles Torrance. Mary grew up in Toronto, attended Moulton College and graduated the University of Toronto with a Degree in Physiotherapy. She then worked as a Physiotherapist through the Polio epidemic in London, Ontario. She married Ross Chamberlain on March 10, 1941. She is survived by her husband and their four loving children, Lynn Lonstrup (Peter), Janice Porter (Robin), Michael (Nancy) and Deborah Rosenlund.

She is fondly remembered by her nine grandchildren: Elizabeth, Michael, Kyle, Richard, Kristina, Susan, David, Julia a and Cameron. She will also be missed by her dear sister Eleanor Berlin (Dick), her nieces, Inge, Ann, Julia, Marney and Beverley and her nephews, Wayne, Billy and Bruce. Mary was always active in the community serving for years as the President of the Manotick United's UCW, founding the Manotick Figure Skating Club, and working as a Physiotherapist, first at the Riverside Hospital, then at St. Vincent and lastly at the Kemptville Hospital. Mary was always very interested and involved in all her children's activities as they grew up, their skating and ballet, their piano lessons, their baseball games: she was always there for them.

Mary is predeceased by her loving parents, Grace and Roy and two dear sisters, Margaret and Marion.
