T0BUY081USIUU: TOBUYOKUAStCAU: By BILL TRAVERS Daily News Sports Writer , Last night was a first for Daily News Golden Glovers. When Dave Villar, a 106-pounder out of Yonkers, answered the opening bell against Korea's Song Eun-Jin at Felt Forum, it marked the first time the Golden Glovers had battled in international competition. In fact, last night's nine-bout card against the Seoul, Korea, team was the first time since 1982 that the Glovers engaged even in intercity competi- tion. That was against Chicago. While none of last night's boxers will participate in the Seoul Olympics, most are young enough to make it in 1992. Since 1952, four former Glovers have reached that Olympic plateau as medal winners. A fifth, Riddick Bowe, qualified as the super-heavyweight this year. Floyd Patterson was the first Glover to win a gold medal. He did it in 1952 after winning the Golden Gloves middlewieght title in 1950 and 1951. Jose Torres, another 160-pound GG champ, took the silver four years later. Howard Davis, a four-time GG champ, earned the welterweight championship in 1976 while Mark Breland, the first five-time GG winner, won the gold in 1984. Bowe, a 6-5, 218-pounder from Brooklyn's Bed-Stuy BC, won four GG golds in his five years. He was 2-0 as a 178-pounder in 1984 before failing to show for a third bout; was the 1978 novice champ in 1985, the 178-pound open champ the following year, and super-heavy titlist in 1987 and '88. Even if he wasn't preparing for the Olympics, Bowe, 21, a Kingsborough College student, wouldn't have fought last night The Koreans have no boxer over 165 pounds. At yesterday's weigh-in at Madison Square Garden, all nine Seoul boxers impressed onlookers as being in tiptop shape, ready, willing and able for last night's card with the Golden Glovers - thus living up to their reputation of being the best-conditioned amateur boxers in the world. None had trouble making the weight. In fact, just one New Yorker, William Wise (147 pounds) of Hempstead's Time Out Club, was overweight. Wise had to lose lVfc pounds for his battle with Oh Jae-Seung. tiiq -KVii-onns' apps were listed from MimiMWIUflimMW 212-974-1010 M-S52-tt8& 212-757-7003 Lee Sang-Hun LeoJae-Hak MARTIN'S IviAlxflM I IHW & MARTIN'S MANHATTAN ACURA 66S lPAVLr49IMST. , MARTIN'S MANHATTAN HONDA HOME OFTHS nPRISCfiU!JT 677 11 AVE. 41 49 ST. nil PARKINS SCMIUISnUMl MARTIN S MANHATTAN LICENSED BY DEPT.
