M. SHARP, Pret't. D. Walker, Sec. we must undoubtedly admit secession a being the method of resisting aggre-iion.

The federal constitution does nut njetend to enumerate the rights of the States, but merely defines those powers delegated to the general government. Those power the Slates have not delegated, they haw reserved. Now the git of the ques-tion is, were the States before the fed eral compact independent and sovereign; ane did they by the constitution deliver up their independence and sovereignty? If the Executive, Legislative, and judicial depart ments, have a right to ducide upon the rights of the States at one instance and tim--, rior, patriot, and statesman, or Foote, ihe revolutionist, with his consolidation. CABO. seems to have been, if was so entirely unexpected that the President of the United States, a fulsome panegyric on their patriotism, a letter to the good people of Boston, and goes on to compliment tnem on their high sense of political and moral obligation, and returns them his warmest acknowledgements God save the mark! But a short time before this affair, the negro Sliadrach was rescued from the Court room and out of the hands of justice by a moli of free negroes, and Sim was taken from these very citizens almost at the point of the bayonet.

Such was the excitement that the United States Marshal found it necessary to call to his assistance an armed force of more than four hundred men, and even with them, if I have nnderstood the matter rightly, had to smuggle him through the streets of Boston, in the night time, and so on beard the ship with all this too at an expense to the Government and his master of several thousand dollars. With all these facts and many others looking us in the face it would seem impossible to come to but one conclusion, and that is, that the free States are utterly opposed to this law and are banding together for its repeal; and tha it will be repealed in a very few years, 1 scarcely think admits of a doubt. This accomplished can any ane man persuade himself that the aboli tionists and higher law men will be satisfied with their viciory? Witl they not use it Another late we have heard of more elopements than common, and often feel inclined to doubt the frwth of the rumors daily given forth, but en enquiry, we regret to add, we generally find them too true. Surely the Queen City is acquiring an enviable reputation in this respect. Hardly a day passes but we hear of some young buck coursing his way to Aberdeen, Cheviot, Cleve land, Sharpsburgh, or seme other outlandish place in company with some fair daughter of youthful teens; scarcely "old enough to leave her mammy yet," much less assume the trying cares of domestic life.

We hardly know what Afrs. Partington will say when she hears of the change in the tone of morale in St-t'n-nati, but, however, we reconcile and condole ourselves in the deluded hope that we are prepared for the worst- come what will. No longer ago than Friday last a physician who resides in the beautiful town of Venice, In Butler county, came here with a blushing, cherry-ripe Miss, engaged seats in the afternoon train for Cleveland, and was off at two o'clock and forty minutes, hounding over hill and dale, at the rate of twenty or thirty miles an hour. All is not yet told, however. He has wantonly abandoned a faithful wife with one little child to glorify in their easy release from one who hath sworn to "love, cherish and protect," through life, from one who hath broken that sacred vow, and taken up with an inexperienced girl perhaps, for whose ruin and wreck he will some day nave to answer for with conscience stricken horror.

The parents of the girl have offered a reward ef one hundred dollars for his arrest, and dispatches were promptly forwarded to Cleveland to arrest tlie parties. Huntington, July 15th 1851.
