Mr. Anderson," who was assistant to Canada's trade com missioner in Hong Kong Jrom 11364-1967, also said Canada "un fortunately picked up this ir rational attitude during the Korean War and carried it into post-war years. He said Canada recognition of Communist China last October, was not a particularly significant event. "The real tragedy of the long period of negotiations and disputes (20 months) is that it obscures the fact that diplomatic recognition is not a particularly significant event the Canadian public was led to believe it meant more he said.

Mr. Anderson did not comment on Canada's record wheat sale of 98 million bushels to Communist China last year the largest salether Canadian Wheat Board has ever made to a single country. Recognition may make it easier, within the next 10 years for Canadians to travel in main land China and for Communist Chinese to travel in Canada. He said Canadian journalists in China are still under strict travel restrictions as are Communist Chinese journalists here He is critical of the Cana dian government for not pro moting student exchanges with Communist China. He said both New Zealand and, Australia have student exchanges even though both, countries do not recognize Communist China and are in direct opposition with that country over Vietnam.

He said cultural exchanges, almost nonexistent at present would be far more important than the exchange of embassies Mr. Anderson has become better known in recent months for his opposition to the pro posed West Coast oil tanker route between Alaska and the U.S. He is 33, and heads the Commons committee on the environment. 1 AD Ad Section' Deaths' frrfm 'receding Column MURPHY, James In hospital on Thursday, March 4, 1971, James Murphy, 74 years, be-. loved husband of Eva Nash of South March.
