A Grand AflUIr. HlGiiLAKU, June 7, 1331. I had the pleasura of attending the party given by tho "Erodelphiau Society of Highland University to tbe Atelceta aud Eutle.au last reuing, at tbe Wildey House, and It was indeed a grand affair. Aa we ucared the hotel, we saw that Mr. Baird had illumlued the yard with Chinese lanterus, making a grand display of his fine lawn.

At 9 o'clock, there were assembled about fifty Io dic and gentlemen, making merry the flying hours. At about 10 o'clock, Couins Cornet Band" rendered Mime very fiue music. By the way, I would like to say a few words for their baud. It is composed of twelve memliers, ten of which are boy; eight of them are rousius, hence the nam. Tho boys are yonng, not yet out of school; they pur chased a set of iustrumcuts, to cultivate their musical talent with.

They played for the I. O. O. F. celebration, aud were very highly complimented by a gentleman from Troy, aaying, that they played fully aa well a the famous Iryor Band, of SL Joe.

They are also nearly all of them members of the Erodelphiau Society. At 10:45 o'clock, we" were ushered Into tbe largo dining room, and lo and btholdl tbe fine! table we had seen for a long time, was waiting to refresh tbe Inner man. After one-half hour or more spent in refreshments, we again assembled in tbe parlor and on the lawn, to sinuse ourselves, and bad a general good time. The Band gave ns a few more selections, and in the small hanrs of morning, we dearted, with very kind feelings toward Mr. aud Mrs.

Baird and tbe Ertslelphian for their splendid and grand entertainment. I forgot to say that the Erodelpbian i the largest gentlemen society In ths school, having over three-fourth of the gcutlsmen members of the school. A VlMTOB. AXD CANVAVSEIt Make from 115 lo 50 per week selling go.li for E. U.

There appear to be no difference between early and late, but every tree loaded to its utmost cai.seity. Ebert says he ia going to put np a rider press, this fall, and his friend shall have plenty of cider. Suppose we should visit him, on Monday, drink heartily from a luirrel of fresh cider, go back again on Thursday, drink from the same barrel, which, during the time, had rorirtf, and become what i known aa hard cider, tbtn we could go away, report on our host, have him heavily fined, thrown into jail, and hia manufacture of the terrible, death -dealing, poverty-breeding, prison-filling, murder-eommittiog poison atopi-ed; and yet St.

One thing, however, needs esjiecial praise and mention. The recitation, "The Shunts of Tennessee, by Mi Minnie Benjamin, was as well rendered as it could have been by any one. Mis Benjsmin ha recently graduated from the Central School of Kansas City, and Wsides her other accomplishments, conic out with her fine elocutionary nt era well trained and fully developed.

As Miss Minnie jiosM-sse a pretty face and very engaging manners, we predict a bright future for her. The reception given Mr. Marshall by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Symns, at their home, on Friday evening, waa a happy affair.

Tbe order of business was then called, when it was agreed to chaug the constitution, where It says: "Instead of wine and lieer, we shall all make water, am now it reads "Owing to the fact that we all have good wells, we consider the manufacture of water unnecessary. CV There is little doubt that the Kansas prohibitory law ha grievously dsmaged the States fsr as immigration is ronerred.

The law i had enough aa it i. but land advertising agents who hate Kansaa have misrepresented It in a most villainous manner. Circular printed In every language are freely distributed in New York to emigrants as they arrive, and in these it I stated that iu Kansss they are not allowed to raise apples, grains, or barley. A gentleman ennuccted with the Atchison, Topeka Santa Fe Railroad stated, a few daya ago, that the la ml sale of that company for the past mouth were about one-third only, of what tbey were for May, ISS0, and that of that" amount only one-fifth were to people from without the State. Ami what Is true of the land business of tbe Santa Fe doubtless roually true of tbe land business of every other road in the State.

Every reader of newsj-aper Is familiar with the fart that the emigration to the United State thia season has been nnpresedeutedly large, ami of a superior cls-s. Therefore, every Kansas man will regret that the prohibitory law lately adopted has resulted not only In inerraxlng the amount of whiskey consumed, but In driving away that which ha lieen one of the source of the State projeritr.
