STATE NEWS. E. Warderman, of Charlotte township, BaUs county, lost his dwelling by flre.March 19. Loss bout 8800 or 1900 BboTfi InkuranceT" Mr. Lathan, Hying south of Belvoif Vernon county, was found dead near Nevada last week, lie had been sick for some time past.

Be was found few miles I rem Nevada, where be bad fatten off his horse. A Mr. L. 8. IImji), of Salem, loot last week.

He had gone to bed leaving hit coat hanging up down stairs, with his pocket-book containing the money In it. lie slept upstairs, and on coming down in the. morning found the pocket-book and money gone. On Thursday evening last, Dick Goodal) sheriff of Laclede county, arrested in Holla a man named Walker B. Rodman, who is charged With having murdered two men in Indiana, several years ago.

Rodman has been living on Big Piney for the last few years. A.dwarfnamsd Quinn wanted to marry a Stepdaughter of Emmons Campbell at Holla, last Saturday. Quinn is a pHuper on tbe coun ty, and the girl Is about fifteen years ot age. They sent for the Rev. Mr.

Merchant to marry them, but after taking a prolonged view of the lovers, be decided that he wouldn't rink splicing this couple. So they are still unmarried. Quinn thought be could support a wife, as he had ft cow. A little after nightfall on Friday last Mr. Farmer, an old and worthy gentleman ot Linn Creek, was found dead, lying within a few steps of bis dwelling.

He had in bis' arms a few sticks of dry wood, upon which he bad fallen, and upon which and his left arm the body rested. There was no Indication of any struggle, or even motion of the body or limbs after tbe fall. It seemed at if his death must have been almost instantaneous. An old settler of Stoddard county, havinc been questioned as to the origin ot tbe name of Bloomdeld, says: "The present site ot the town, was for many years before the netth ment of this county an Indian town, and the whites, alter the Indians had left, concluded tc locate a town on the site the Indians had selected, which had been planted in peacl trees by them. It being in March, in an early spring like tbe present oue, when the town was laid off, and tbe trees being in full bloom tbe name ot Ijioomuclu was given to tbe new town." Friday morning as the Missouri Pucifi.

western bound passenger train was nearing Kansas City, three card-monte men made their appearance, and were soon at work They caught in their toils a man named Nor- ton, who was on bis way to Hutchinson, Kun sas. He bet his monev on the wrong card and lost about $75, and of course was much dis couraged, and demanded his money back. An altercation ensued, when chief of tbe moute men started for the door of the car, Norton in pursuit. On reaching the platform the nioiHo man leaped from tbe train, wbich was going at a rapid rate, pei haps thirty miles an hour He fell upon bis head and broke bis neck and died instantly. His name is unknown as no ne could identify him.

A Mad Hungarian Horseman. Count Nugy-Sandor, ol whose deuth we recently guve an account, jumped any thing and everything. At a cross-road once went ever a peasant's wagon, crossed the Danube on the floes when ice was breaking up, galloped up and down the Prater backwards in his saddle and rivaled all the feats performed in the great circuses. In 1848 lie was treated to a charivari by the enraged populace on account ot his conectiou with Prince Motternich, but, stepping out on the balcony with a dog-whistle and two servants, each with a sack lull ot its, be quite out-whistled and out miaowed his an tag onists. Then, going down stairs amongst them, he seized a stone, and.

throwing it at one ot his windows, invited the crowd to smash the rest. Taken aback at this courtesy, they refused. Thereupon San-dor cried "Well, then, let us go to my father-in-law's and smash his." This proposal was carried by acclamation, and the prince's windows were duly smashed. But by this time Sandor had so got the orowd under his control that no further damage was done, and what might have been a serious riot was changed into convivial meeting One day a remarkable transformation took place. He became as nervous and timid as he had been reckless and daring.

He never mounted a horse again, refused to take the reins when he went out driving, and always warned his daughters to be cautious. This change, I was told by one of his most intimate friends, was due to a dream. The dream was to the effect that the devil suddenly appeared with a number of mirrors, which he held one by one before tbe count, and in wbich Sandor saw the danger he had run in each oi his exploits. Mirror after mirror was held before him till the sweat poured from bis brow, and the last glass was reached. But instead of showing him this oue, the devil put it back with a leer and said "This is the last one this has yet to come." At this moment the count awoke and yowed that he would never mount another horse again.
