iU MAYOR'S C0URtT' January 18, 1862. Patriok Lowe' was brought from Lock up before the Mayor, eharged on oath of officer Miller with drunkenness, disorderly conduct in the streets, and begging. It appenrod from tho testimony that Lowe was brought to the lock up drunk, and when examined by the keeper as to kaife, bottle, matches, and other dangerous he surrendered knife i and matohes! but as to bottle, on his faith as an Iruhman, ho had none. The officer, not being satisfied, made a close investigation, and found a disparity be twecnthe left and right side of Lowe's breast, and, on being interrogated as to the cause, Lowe explainod it, saying, that he bad a severe sore on the left side. On a further examination, the "spro" was found on the outside of the left lobo of the lung, and consisted of a large excrescence on the surface of the article, "about eight inches in length and four inches in width, and covered orer with tin, resembling very much a soldier's canteen.

On touching it, he seemed to be annoyed by pain, and on its removal he fairly shrieked. On farther examination it was found to contain about a piflt and half of strong liquid, and which he Sailed whiskey. It was further shown that same Lowe asked for money at a certain bouse, and when refused; attempted to kick the person for not complying with his wishes. The Mayor sentenced Lowe to thirty days im prisonment in the Berks County Jaiif i and declared the ammunition of the prisoner contra traband. John Currah wag brought up, next, oharged on oath of officer Eocholl, of a similar offonce as John, from his statcmeni, was very anxious to go, sayiag, that he did not feel inclined to go to prison, and that, if permitted by the would take his departure from tho city at once' and would never trouble the lock up again.

The Mayor asked John whether he had ever heard of the Hon. John Phipot Curran. yes," said John, "we were both bomin the same place, and I often heard my mother say that we wore distant relations of his." What a contrast between Jphn Curraa'andf John P.
