xpAILY4SfPf5, NEWS Wednesday. March 30, 1988 ii I il i i i i 1 i GOLDEN GLOVES IT 'Wq By ERNIE MUNICK Today's Runners: Smart N' Irish (1st race); Pennsylvania Pride (6th). Fans of the John Forbes-Julie Krone eombo will love today's card. Smart N' Irish is fit and ready for the first race and. Pennsylvania Pride is looking to break his maiden in the sixth.

Forbes and Krone also have a chaace in the second (Lefty Leader) and third (A. Pucci) races, but let's not get greedy. Last time out, Irish finished fourth in a swiftly run race won by Judy's Halo. Irish was obviously over-'matched. Two races back, Irish finished third after racing in tight quarters through the lane.

Once again, she was out of her league against $50,000 fillies. Today, Irish stretches out from six furlongs to a mile and finally drops to her proper claiming level, $35,000. Next comes Pennsylvania Pride, a 3-year-old colt by Overskate who couldn't be as bad as he was last time. In his most recent start, Pride finished eighth. He had no punch, no i fire, no nothing.

Getting bumped at the (3d. Nashira was dull. Tilt the Pocket (4th, $15.40) set a hot clip and held on. Straight Dancer stumbled leaving the gate, chased, gamely held second. Arctic Commander (5th) was checked while lacking room along the inside on the far turn.

Another jump or two and Noble Preview (7th) would've gotten there. Pa-tinadora was bothered at the start Husky Hibernation (8th, $5.40) rated kindly, drew off on request Forbes Way finished wildly. Peppy Le Pew was steadied at headstretch. Justa Moment (9th) broke slowly, rushed. The best horse finished second.

Yesterday's Claims: Vincent Mir-rione (1st) claimed Most Orphan from John Forbes for $20,000. Anthony Tro-pia (4th) claimed Squire Percival from Bill Curtis Jr. for $17,500. Double-digit DiMauro (6th) claimed Golden Credit Card from Leo Veitch for $25,000. Yesterday's Picks: Nashira (3d) finished fifth; Noble Preview (7th) finished second.

start may have had something to do with it He wasnt exactly being kept to the task in the stretch, either. Two races back, Pride finished third in what was arguably a stronger field of state-breds. If Pride can repeat that performance today, hell complete the Forbes-Krone Parlay. Yesterday's Card: The outside was the right side. No excuses for favored Rustic Aura (2d).

Newcomer Captain Absolute broke slowly, finished fast inside and then was ridden out a furlong beyond the wire. Watch. Winter's Chief was a vet A rough trip didn't stop Crow Song By BILL FARWELL Daily News Sports Writer While the remaining novice class boxers await tomorrow night's semifinal bouts at the Felt Forum, more than a dozen open-class Glovers are in Colorado Springs, seeking national titles. The national championships which began Monday night comprise a grueling test of stamina, skill and ability. For a solid week, boxers compete in what is literally a "three-ring circus" environment There are bouts going on in three rings at the same time.

Before a national champion is crowned, many of the boxers will have had to win one bout a night for five straight nights. The eventual winners receive automatic invitations to the Olympic Trials in June. Blue Mistress HtiLoce 15-1 Wishing 6-1 Dorothy Victory 20-1 Pace, Clme, I m.
