animal corner A whale of a show -V J. r-e letters to the editor Ithaca, n.y.: The arrogant picture of Michael Douglas and the story that revealed his leftist background was a discredit to The News and a discredit to our country. Mr. Douglas sex life and drug life does not interest me but his statement, 'Tm sure the Communists would win tomorrow if they held a free national election in Vietnam" is an outright lie as free elections never take place in any Communist country. It would be a good idea if Mr.

Douglas packed his suitcase to see what kind of living he could earn working under a Communist regime. ROBERT BART Washington, A belated note to tell you how much I enjoyed the feature on Betty urn ess. I've been reading The News for over a year now and enjoy it immensely; you have something for everybody. Since you featured New York State's consumer adviser, I was wondering if you could possibly feature New York City's opposite number, Bess Myerson. I know The News doesn't always agree with Miss Myerson but I feel that, basically, she has the consumer interest at heart.

Many, many thanks to all your people for a fine paper. JESSIE M. WOOD Birmingham, I always wondered why they called the rows of seats in church "pews." Now I know! The word must have been coined by Virginia Slims (oops, Sluti), the gal who wrote you to suggest smoking be allowed in church. phew! northport, n.y.: My husband and I were delighted to read about Marriage Encounter in Adam DiPetto's "Strictly Youthsville" column. -We'd like to let everyone know, however, that Marriage Encounter is not just for the young.

Couples newly engaged tip to couples in their 70s have gone on the Marriage Encounter weekend and come away with such a deepening of their relationship that it has to be experienced. My husband and I have been married very happily for over 12 years. We went on our Marriage Encounter weekend several months ago and feel that this was the most wonderful experience of our married lives. It is enabling us to continue to grow in a way we never would have believed possible. We sincerely wish every married couple could experience the joy of the Marriage Encounter.

There are no religious requirements. Anyone who would like to know more should write to Father Charles Gallagher, St. Ignatius, Manhasset, New York. NANCY AND FRED RICH! England. They are at the mercy of a 13-foot, 10-inch whale named Baby. The huge mammal is docile riendly, and likes nothing better than crabbing the tow line from a loat in the xxl and pulling the craft all over the water. Kids find the nde exciting, especially when Baby puts on her show of leaping out of tlie water, after first dropping the tow line. Following each day's show.

Baby is rewarded with 55 pounds of herring and mackerel. She never bites off more than she can chew. For your letter to gel the attention of the editors, street or mailing address must be given. We will withhold names and street addresses on request. Address the Editor, Coloroto Magazine.
