US SUN TROUPE, of the and the Acrobatic Turin far ibove the Average- Individual Mention. The Gus Sun Minstrels, an aggregation new to this portion of the state, made their initial bow to a Woodland audience Wednesday evening and scored an emphatic lilt. These minstrels have a good eastern reputation, though little is known of them in this state. They compare very favorably vHh any minstrel company that bas visited our city. The first part, which, after all, constitutes the one great essential feature of every minstrel show, is especially attractive.

The stage setting Is very pretty, with its numerous electric lights, etc. In some respects the first part is ahead of Haverly's minstrels, particularly In the vocal line. The quartet and chorus singing is very good and there are a number of soloists who are above the average Barardi has a very high pitched tenor voice and sings apparently with no effort J. P. Holloran sang very sweetly "In the "Village by the Sea." For an encore he rendered the popular "Bedelia," with quartet accompaniment.

Wilson N. Miller, the basso, apparently knows how to sing, but his voice was rather too husky to be very pleasing. It must be said to the credit of all the vocalists that their songs were new and well chosen. The comedians are not particularly funny with the exception of Fred Russell, whose best work consists in singing comic songs in a droll manner. He is a clever entertainer and keeps the audience in continual good humor.

His monologue lacks the finish of Billy Van, George Wilson and some of tho other stars of minstrelsy, but nevertheless it is good enough to keep everybody laughing. Walter Wilson, who is the author of that once popular coon song, "Ain't That a Shame?" sang another of his compositions, entitled "I'm Going to Leave." Mr. Wilson writes his songs better than he sings them. His best Is that done with Feeney in a song and dance turn. In this turn he proved himself to be a very capable dancer.

John Goss, the third comedian, shines as a bone soloist He performs in a remarkably clever manner on them, at the same time doing all kinds of stunts with a wire hoop and a lamp. The jokes for the greater part were new and clever. Of course tte comedians had the usual supply of mathematical problems, matrimonial troubles and poetical perpetrations to air. W. C.

Stonaker was an excellent Interlocutor. Two very pleasing turns in the olio were those offered by Heller, the somersault Dounding wire artist, and Connors and Montrose, acrobats, trick tumblers and barrel Jumpers. Both turns were far above the average. The best physic. "Once tried and you will always use Chamberlain's Stom- and Liver Tablets," says William A.

Girard, Pease, Vt These tablets are the most prompt, most pleasant and most reliable cathartic in use. For cale by J. V. Leithold. For a good shave, hair-cut or shampoo, go to Dlnzler's barber shop.

tl FIFTY-CENT COLUMN. HSKED TO NUKE HASTE, Willis, of 1 World's Fair Commission, Bead) Hotice. After a herculean struggle in the division of space In the agricultural building at St. Louis between the counties that will make exhibits at the exposition of the present year, the California commissioners have reached a point where there is only one -ioeslble ground for further discussion concerning space allotments. AU the counties have agreed to take what has been assigned, with the exception of Alameda.

county. Tho people of were contented to occupy the portion of the ground and wall room that a diagram showed to been set asido for their exhibit Recently, however, a map or chart was received from St. Louis, which had Mnes on It Inclosing a flatiron shaped area that was apparently taken from Alameda. Letters have been sent to St. Louis to enquire what is meant by this.

The commissioners have no knowledge any space being shorn from the Alameda area, but the map tells a different story. It may be all a mistake. On the receipt of replies from SUxmls ihe fate of Alameda county will be Sxed. If there is no interference with the space as originally assigned there will be no reason for an additional question. All other counties are satis- fled.

Acting on the belief that the space allotment matter is now practically disposed of, Secretary B. B. "Willis has out a circular letter addressed to the persons who have charge of the exhibits that are to be forwarded to St Louis at the expense of the commission and has requested that they move promptly to get their wares Into hands of the commission at an early date. In part Secretary Willis writes: "We beg to request that you will get your material packed for shipment at Jie earliest possible day and supply commission as soon as possible with a memorandum of the number ol packages you will have and list the the same. is suggested that, owing to the very high rate on structural material, the counties and individual exhibitors shall arrange to have their structures built at St.

Subscribers who are In arrears will confer a great favor by re- mltting a part If not convenient to pay tho whole amount of sub- scription due. Please examine the date after your name on the paper or wrapper, and see when your subscription expired. ED. E. LEAKE.
